Art Museum Museum
With over 40 galleries, Milwaukee Art Museum displays the work of artists ranging from self-taught folk geniuses to Pablo Picasso. Being itself an architectural landmark, famous for its moveable sunscreen in the shape of wings, that folds and unfolds twice daily, the museum has become an icon for Milwaukee. Apart from paintings, photographs, and video art, among many collections, you'll see Baroque and Renaissance furniture, tableware, and metalwork, as well as the best collection of German Renaissance clocks outside of Germany. The museum has some of the United States' finest collections of American decorative arts, Haitian art, and more. If you get hungry, take a peek at the menu in cafe Calatrava, with entrees inspired by the exhibition currently taking place. Where to stay in Milwaukee

Staying in the city center puts you right in the heart of the activity, and means you can take advantage of all the things to do in Milwaukee’s walkable downtown area. Options here include big chain hotels as well as quirky inns. Party animals should sacrifice some sleep to stay close to Milwaukee’s lively bar scene, centered around Water Street. Those who want a little more rest should consider a scenic resort in the greater Milwaukee area; many of these are within easy driving distance of the main attractions.

  • Lovely, modern museum with convenient parking, handicapped friendly. Beautiful interior, helpful guides and info desk. Friendly gift shop with wide selection of gift items. Deli shop with tasty sandwich, salad combos. Good coffee. Overall wonderful museum in a waterside location with great views.
  • Wonderful experience. Thank you Brittany for being so friendly and helpful. The building is must see inside and out, at 12 pm wings closing and opening again, life music playing at 12:15 inside. Exposition modern in majority. I found art on the first floor is very interesting.
  • Among the top best art museums. People don't necessarily think of Milwaukee being a CULTURAL PLACE, but they would be wrong. So many wonderful things to see n do. AS a BROKER / AGENT my gift to my clients is a tour of the landmark buildings of which there are many, as well as Wright's homes n buildings.
  • Went to the Art Museum today with my kids ages 9, 7, and 4. As soon as we got there the security guard followed us around as if my children were going to ruin all the artwork. Made us feel SO uncomfortable. One security in guards in particular followed us around to make sure my kids weren't misbehaving. So disappointed so we quickly rushed through the first floor. Besides that, all the artwork was beautiful and we had a great experience in the Cafe, the kids room, and another security guard on the 2nd floor was a pleasure. At least he seemed to understand it was supposed to be a kid friendly experience. I don't think I will ever take them back there.
  • I did Saturday morning yoga here and WOW!!! The sunrise, the views, and the instructor were all incredible. I was with a large group and the instructor still had time to correct my position several times. The venue was gorgeous and I would love to do it again!
