With over 40 galleries, Milwaukee Art Museum displays the work of artists ranging from self-taught folk geniuses to Pablo Picasso. Being itself an architectural landmark, famous for its moveable sunscreen in the shape of wings, that folds and unfolds twice daily, the museum has become an icon for Milwaukee. Apart from paintings, photographs, and video art, among many collections, you'll see Baroque and Renaissance furniture, tableware, and metalwork, as well as the best collection of German Renaissance clocks outside of Germany. The museum has some of the United States' finest collections of American decorative arts, Haitian art, and more. If you get hungry, take a peek at the menu in cafe Calatrava, with entrees inspired by the exhibition currently taking place. • Traveled from Chicago area with friends specifically to view this museum. Not disappointed. It is stunning and the lakefront views are lovely.

  • Excellent art museum! The building is beautiful, well air-conditioned (important on a hot day!) and not too busy. I really enjoyed the range of galleries, and my favorites were the contemporary and design objects on the first floor. There was also an amazing limited show of woven works on the top floor that captivated me. All the staff I interacted with were very pleasant. I recommend making a visit!
  • Spent an afternoon with the family and when the kids are having a fun time and learning you know its a good experience. Very clean and friendly atmosphere made it an enjoyable time. Not a place we visit often, but certainly beautiful architecture and design. The staff was super welcoming and helped the kids with activities like painting (no charge).
  • This is a great modern art museum. It has some nice older stuff too. Very open and spacious this art museum sits on lake Michigan in a very modern building. It's a great place to take pictures both in and out. I highly recommend you visit.
  • A must do when in Milwaukee. Parking is a breeze and affordable. You get a two-fer! The Veterans War museum is next door. While donations are welcome admission is free. It's worth the stop-in just for the stunning view from the upper level. The Art museum is well laid out. Each piece has the opportunity to stand-out front and center against the white wall background, well positioned lighting and for a bonus you get more lake views from the strategically placed windows. End your day with a rental bike ride on the lake front also perfectly located just outside the museum, lake side.
  • Such a marvelous architectural masterpiece. If you're visiting or a local in the beautiful city of Milwaukee, this a must-visit spot. From the subterranean parking deck to the upper gallery level the building is filled with natural light and meticulously articulated proportions. The playful and dynamic nature of the pavilion's floating wings and the view from the pedestrian bridge create a mesmerizing scene and unforgettable experience.
