Lake Park, Milwaukee

(4.6/5 based on 65+ reviews on the web)
Lake Park, located on Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is an urban park covering 138.1-acre. The park is part of a mostly contiguous stretch of lakefront amenities that extend north from Milwaukee's downtown, including Bradford Beach, various parks, McKinley Marina, and the Milwaukee Art Museum. Lake Park was designed in the late 19th century by Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed Central Park in New York City along with many others. Believing that access to nature had a civilizing and restorative effect on the urban public, Olmsted designed Lake Park in the Romantic tradition, with a preference for natural landscaping, winding paths, a variety of vistas, incorporation of wildlife, and a balance between active recreation and more passive enjoyment.

The park terrain includes both bluffs and ravines. In addition, Lake Park is home to the last remaining Indian mound in the city of Milwaukee. The others were destroyed by early settlers of the city and surrounding area.

It also contains the North Point Lighthouse, which was built in 1855.

A 6-hole golf course was built in 1903, expanding to 18 holes in 1930.

  • Neat drive up to the north side along the lake to see this park. Walking trails and overlooks the lake. Also the lighthouse fun to see/tour when open.  more »
  • Our beautiful lake is so special. There are very few fresh water lakes in the world and this one is taken care of for the enjoyment of all the citizens. Along the Lake Park you will find a world class...  more »
  • North Point Lighthouse-ball Woo you. Located in the northeastern part of the size of the thrust as a professed and also own sculptures in the Park, only to see the sights, but here would be my top yen for street legal shortcomings.

  • I came to Lake Park for the view and to play Pokemon Go with my husband. The city is definitely doing a decent job keeping it cleaned up. You would be amazed how little trash there is considering the THOUSANDS of people that are there on a daily basis now. The view of Lake Michigan is amazing anytime of the day. There is a beach down below too! The parking is great and there is lots of it. I highly recommend Lake Park for sure!
  • A beautifully kept park with great views overlooking the beach and out to the lake. A golf course is within as well as paved and unpaved trails. There are many Pokemon Go stops which make this area quite popular.
  • Most of the park is beatiful and accessible. Soccer fields need some help though. Lawn bowling.
  • Beautiful park and a great gathering spot to hang out and grill with friends. There are plenty of great hiking trails to explore all corners of the park. Also, there is an ice rink put in during the winter.
  • Small park but a few good views of the lake. Old light house and statues. The ravine trails that lead to Bradford beach are pretty cool.
