Nature / Park
Lake Park, located on Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is an urban park covering 138.1-acre. The park is part of a mostly contiguous stretch of lakefront amenities that extend north from Milwaukee's downtown, including Bradford Beach, various parks, McKinley Marina, and the Milwaukee Art Museum. Lake Park was designed in the late 19th century by Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed Central Park in New York City along with many others. Believing that access to nature had a civilizing and restorative effect on the urban public, Olmsted designed Lake Park in the Romantic tradition, with a preference for natural landscaping, winding paths, a variety of vistas, incorporation of wildlife, and a balance between active recreation and more passive enjoyment.

The park terrain includes both bluffs and ravines. In addition, Lake Park is home to the last remaining Indian mound in the city of Milwaukee. The others were destroyed by early settlers of the city and surrounding area.

It also contains the North Point Lighthouse, which was built in 1855.

A 6-hole golf course was built in 1903, expanding to 18 holes in 1930.

  • Hub of activity. Lived 4 blocks from the park for 25 years. On my 5k and 10k route. Tennis, volleyball, beaches, restaurants from fine dining to burgers. Rent jet skis, fly kites, or read a book.
  • Decent Soccer fields. Nice for laying in grass with your girl/man Can play ball with you kids. Ultimate frisbee. Fly kites. Train athleticly.
  • The main attraction to this park is that there are a lot of attractions. For the history buff, there are statues and historical placards abounding and for the architectural enthusiast there are old bridges and a tour-able Lighthouse. For the sporting type: golf, boccie ball, and trails for hiking and paved trails for running. Kids of all ages will appreciate the playgrounds as well.
  • Quieter than Bradford Beach or Veteran's park in the peak summer time, a great place to hang out with friends and enjoy the outdoors!
  • Always enjoy a walk in the park here, whether it's to take a break from classes or to get away from the craziness of downtown and Brady St area. The trails are pleasant little roundabouts, though some pathways could use a little touching up. This place is a treat in the summer and fall when the trees are rustling - it feels like you're out in the woods, miles away from the city. Be wary of the swarms of Pokemon Go! enthusiasts that come and go!
