Walk through Historic Third Ward, the city's booming Art and Fashion District in an old warehouse setting. This neighborhood, which features about 10 square blocks listed on the National Register of Historic Places, used to be an Irish immigrant neighborhood full of factories. Today the city has filled these warehouses with hundreds of diverse businesses. The neighborhood has undergone a sort of renaissance, which is evident through its many boutique shops, restaurants, galleries, and hip residential buildings. The architecture alone is worth a look; it ranges from Victorian Gothic style to Art Deco-influenced designs. The area is home to the Broadway Theatre Center, Milwaukee Public Market, and Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, which attracts many young artistic people and events to the area. We went on a Monday and it was pretty crowded I can't imagine a busy day. There is a cookie place with yummy vegan choc. chip cookies. Head upstairs with food for a bit more space.

Our group enjoyed brats and beer at The Milwaukee Brat House and loved shopping at Usinger's Sausage Shop and The Cheese Shop. Sadly, Mader's was not open when we visited.
