Great little off-the-beaten path museum dedicated to the 1910's to 1940's. Each room is made up to look like a different business and filled with things from that era (e.g. general store, soda fountai... read more »
Found this museum on an "Open Doors" day in Milwaukee (so, it and lots of other places were free), and it was interesting for the four of us "senior citizens." Lots of fun stuff and facts about "old t... read more »
I was entirely facinated at at this incredible place! The museum is in a very old two-story house. Each room is filled with momentos and objects from the past- I mean jam-packed in such an orderly fas... read more »
I wish I had visited sooner in my Marquette years. It's so close to campus, cheap, and had many cool items to explore. The initial collector collected hundreds of thousands of items in his lifetime. There's an old soda bar including menus, an old pharmacy, and you can watch videos in the theater. I bought postcards and the Milwaukee board game here, and learned about John Luick, a former Milwaukee resident who made super important contributions to the ice cream industry.
This little gem was well worth the $5 admission price. The exhibits are recreations of typical spaces, lovingly hand-created by a passionate and knowledgeable staff. It's a great chance to dig deep into Milwaukee history by looking at a snapshot in time. Ask the tour guide about any topic in the museum...or any topic NOT in the museum...and learn a ton about the past and people of this city!
This was a remarkable experience! A friend of mine recommended this museum, and I absolutely loved it!
If you are visiting Milwaukee you must go here! The look back at Milwaukee in its heyday means it should be one of your first stops. Extremely helpful staff and personal tours make the experience one of a kind. Plus it's super cheap. Less than $5 a person. GO!
Interesting and entertaining history of old Milwaukee. Recreations of drug stores, barber shop, candy store, and even a speak easy. A hidden gem.
