Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, Miami
Categories: Specialty Museums, Museums
A taste of Europe in Miami, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens once served as the home of businessman James Deering. Begun in 1910, with architecture and gardens modeled on the Mediterranean Revival style, the estate was Deering's winter residence from 1916 until his death in 1925. Today, the museum and gardens attract visitors who are drawn by the villa's collection of antique furniture, tapestries, paintings, and decorative arts. The seaside gardens brim with fountains, sculptures, gazebos, trails, and pools. The estate frequently hosts dignitaries from around the world. Nice garden, next to the water, an interesting visit. Sometimes there's music in the courtyard. Learn about its history.

A trip back in time to a period when "Old Money" created homes that brimming with excellent old world craftsmanship and skill that rarely is seen today. Once you see the beauty of the house, grounds and the view, you will never forget the Vizcaya in all its glory A place dreams are made real.

I LOVE IT HERE.. So beautiful. My husband and I like to come once a year or more and visit the grounds and on the North side you can have some brunch.. It is very interesting and we have done the tour once which gives alot of insight to the castle and names of whose who that have walked the same steps.. What is nice is that you do not have to do the tour and can go at your own pace and explore...♥
Went with my wife for the Moonlight Garden Tour. It was a really great evening, highly recommended! After arriving we decided to first walk around by ourselves. It's a beautiful estate with manicured gardens and a great view onto Biscayne Bay. We had a bite to eat at the cafe, wandered around a little more, then joined a scheduled tour. The tour was 45 minutes and our tour guide, Alex, was very knowledgeable about the history of Vizcaya. We stayed for a while longer and were treated to a big orange moon rising over the bay. A great romantic evening.
I have been at this very beautiful and unique place before the age of social media. Now I have to take the opportunity and very disappointingly give this establishment a 2 star rating due to the poor assistance and ecperience my wheelchair bound friend received today. We had to leave early exhausted from trying to enter the air conditioned main building. The staff looked bewildered when asked how we could gain access inside. We were told to climb up the steps in the front, and then there were more inside. How can you get away with this? Very bad.
Well worth a visit, especially for fans of the Beaux Arts period. I was there for a catered affair and found myself awestruck -- visual delights at every turn, from the striking architecture and gorgeous waterfront locale to the sumptuous gardens & landscapes. No time for the full tour, but what little I saw of the mansion's interior was instantly memorable. And if you're lucky enough to experience their catering, then get ready for a treat...their staff were friendly, gracious and solicitous, to a fault. Vizcaya gets my highest recommendation!
