Specialty Museum Museum
A taste of Europe in Miami, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens once served as the home of businessman James Deering. Begun in 1910, with architecture and gardens modeled on the Mediterranean Revival style, the estate was Deering's winter residence from 1916 until his death in 1925. Today, the museum and gardens attract visitors who are drawn by the villa's collection of antique furniture, tapestries, paintings, and decorative arts. The seaside gardens brim with fountains, sculptures, gazebos, trails, and pools. The estate frequently hosts dignitaries from around the world. Where to stay in Miami

Miami's South Beach boasts one of the largest collections of boutique hotels in the country. Though it can be quite expensive, staying in this area ensures proximity to the city's best shoreline, clubs, shopping, and restaurants, not to mention Art Deco buildings. Mid-Beach and downtown also make great places to stay, offering some superb apartment rentals and small hotels, though the neighborhoods are not as glamorous as South Beach. If you're traveling on a budget, avoid the high season during winter months. If money is no object, get a room with a view before it gets too hot along the famous stretch of Collins Avenue between 15th and 23rd Street.

  • This is a must-visit for locals and visitors alike. Both the house and the gardens provide wonderful sightseeing and a little bit of an idea of the other half lived 80 years ago. Beautiful.  more »
  • Viscaya is a strange place. It is quite original, a fantasy castle, strange with breathtaking views over the water, but with a strange sensation of mistery . Not really a cozy place. Try to visit duri...  more »
  • I loved this Villa and its garden. There are lots of lizards in it, fun to spot them in the sun. If you go in a hot day it's gonna be tiring, bring water!  more »

  • Likely the best out doors stroll with plenty of photo ops. Tour of the interior is neat, but kids will get bored. Exterior is really the reason to stop in. Goose foot garden and some pretty cool history. They have a decent cafe with tourist centred food and pricing...
  • Beautiful grounds, beautiful house/museum, friendly staff and very reasonable prices. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. We ate at the cafe and the food was great. Sweet & savory grilled cheese on point. Lots of great photo locations outside and inside without flash. The grounds did get busy, it never felt crowded. Would definitely visit again.
  • Really amazing building and grounds. Bring a water bottle! The price is really worth it to visit. There is so much to see, lots of little nooks and crannies with priceless art and beautiful flowers. I wish the fountains had been on. That would have been perfect.
  • A beautiful place to visit. It takes you back to a completely different place and time, which is a nice respite from the modern Miami. A welcomed change of pace, where you can wander through the quiet gardens, bounce between the shade trees, take in a warm breeze off the water, ogle at the fabulous interiors, and pretend you're not in one of the busiest cities in the world. A must see for those visiting Miami, as it is something genuinely special.
  • Can easily spend all day walking the grounds and inside Vizcaya. This is one place you must visit to understand what Florida was like back in the early 1900. A true Gem of Miami and a piece of history of America. Bring your camera and a good pair of walking shoes. The cafe serves a great menu too.
