  • Ruins of messa verde, are worth to see if you are interested in discovering old cultures and civilisations.  more »
  • This is a 2 hour ranger tour that starts at Wetherill Mesa info desk. Takes about 2 1/2 hours, sneakers or hiking shoes are a must. Definitely recommend because the dwellings are so amazing.  more »
  • By all means while in Mesa Verde try to book one of the ranger lead hikes which take you into one of the sites. You cannot truly appreciate what these dwellings are like from afar.  more »

  • I think if I did this one first, it would have been my favorite. As is, it's close between this one and balcony house. This one is huge and you get to explore more of it than cliff palace. It has some really cool things you won't find anywhere else, and the echo is amazing. Look for the mud stains on the ceiling, some of the pictographs, and of course the handprint. My guide Kaitlin was superb! Best guide I had on my trip.
  • the biggest and best one best to be at the park around sunset, or at least after noon. most of these caves face west. and I went early morning, totally blinded by the rising sun, and my pictures were not great. great trails all around. but be care full most of them are shut down for the winter, and some renovation work in 2017 I was not bale to walk down to the long house, only seen from across the valley, but wow.
  • Missed this first two visits. Got it 6-26-17. It is Cliff Palace and Balcony House combined! Must see!
  • Take the time to make the hike with a Ranger. Really interesting
  • It was amazing! I had lots of fun at it. However, it is mostly closed off, which take a lot of fun out of it.

Where to stay in Mesa Verde National Park

The Far View Lodge provides a comfortable place to sleep inside Mesa Verde National Park. The well-appointed rooms here do not include televisions, encouraging guests to focus their attention instead on the surrounding nature. The lodge often fills up on summer weekends, so reserve ahead if you plan to stay during this time. The park's large Morefield Campground, on the other hand, almost always has space available. The town of Cortez, with its plentiful inns and motels just northwest of the park, serves as a convenient base. A bit further east of the park, Durango provides a greater array of accommodations in a historical Old West setting.
