Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web
Family-owned Southwick's Zoo houses over 100 different species of animals. The 120 hectare (300 acre) Southwick homestead was a dairy farm when the family began collecting exotic poultry and other birds. In 1963 the family opened the zoo, and it has since expanded with a chimpanzee exhibit and skyfari ride. Enjoy a 15-minute ride above the zoo to get a bird's-eye view of the exhibits housing sika deer, chimpanzees, elk, and cheetahs. Visit the deer forest for a chance to pet and feed the deer. • I give this place 4 stars because it's beautiful and the animals are well kept the grounds are clean! What some people don't understand is that animal up keep cost a lot of money although 25 dollars a ticket is a little steep but realize this zoo does not get funding from zoo assoiation such as Bronx zoo , Franklin zoo and so on! This zoo is beautiful I do agree some things can be better and improved which they have proved over years! But this is by far my favorite. The elephants does belong to the southwick zoo so I can say that they shouldn't promote elephant rides! What I'd love to see in this zoo is aquatic animas like sea lion pool, penguins, even sharks anyways for those who had a bad expierence I feel sorry because I have a great time all the time I go!
  • It was a pretty decent zoo. I do believe the cost was a bit high, but I don't mind quite as much since it is going to the care and upkeep of the animals. Was able to walk through the whole zoo in about 2 hrs so not overly large, and had a decent selection of animals to look at. The enclosures were better than merely fenced in yards, which I appreciated. While not quite up to par with the Columbus Ohio or Cincinnati, Ohio zoo, I felt this zoo was pretty good.
  • Love this zoo we live being able to feed and walk aground with the deers. So much to see and the shows are nice too. Worth the drive
  • Yes so beatiful but i give one star beacause is so spence i now the animal to take care is cost but to much people go there, 25 dollar to see animal only is to much never go to this zoo but sorry I don't recommends is to much money for everything, 6 dollars for ride each kids so but what happens when someone have 3 or more kids is to much, O M G
  • Maybe I've seen bigger zoos but this did not impress me at all. And on top of that they showcase that they're one of the biggest zoos in the New England area, clearly you haven't seen the Bronx zoo. Which I get isn't part of New England area, but it's not that far from Mass and definitely worth the drive to New York. I think this zoo is meant for younger kids with their parents. My boyfriend and I went and we're both about young 20s in age. Most of the animals were sleeping even though it was hot out. I did see a cheetah that looked roughed up, I felt so bad for him. I almost thought he was dead at one point because he wasn't breathing. Even the people next to me said the same thing. The only cool thing there was the deer forest, they interact with you and you can feed them and they follow you around. I could barely see half of the animals because they were sleeping. I emailed them and told them my experience and they said they could give me 2 free tickets to come back in better weather, but I asked for my money back after that email and they never replied pretty much ignoring my question about my money back. And then I emailed again a couple days later asking what was going on and they said I never sent them my address... but I wanted to know the answer to my original question about getting my money back. I don't know..weird customer service. I don't see myself going back there. Save your money and go to the bronx or philadelphia zoo. APB
