  • If you like music, you can not stop going to this museum that shows step by step the evolution of the Soul in Memphis and in American music during the Decade of the 60s and 70s. Highlight: the Oscar and the Cadillac with details of gold of 24 k of Isaac Hayes.

  • The soul music history in Memphis and the influence of Stax records is worth checking out when you are in Memphis. The videos and exhibits shed light on the incredible contributions of so many classic soul artists. If you love vinyl records like me, you'll appreciate the walls of 45s and the gems for sale in the store. Maybe you've never heard of or thought about Stax record label, but trust me you've heard their music and know many of the artists, unless you've never listened to any soul music. Cuts upon cuts, the "oldies" you can't help bit sing along to when they begin to play. I had to include a pic of Isaac Hayes caddy... yep, the car and the music are golden!
  • Filled with memorabilia from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Can spend hours taking in the historical facts and behind-the-scenes info about the music that was the musical score to our formative years. Wished I had more time to read everything. Tip: It is a self-guided tour with recording. Instead of listening to narrator, read exhibit labels and listen to the music by keying in the suggested playlist for each time period.
  • This is one of the best museums and gift shops you will ever experience in Memphis. There is no way I couldn't give it 5 stars. From the moment you walk in an get greeted by one of their outstanding staff members, until you finish your tour and check out their cool gift shop, this place is always a stellar experience.
  • Straight up -- I went, but am not strongly into the genre. Why five stars? It's from the collaboration across race and other boundaries of the times that made the Stax legacy. It's for the stories of overcoming and of unlikely personalities finding a way together; but also of ominous outside financial and societal forces intruding. In all, through Stax, many found success, and America's musical culture was forever imprinted. Today a neighborhood is determined to continue the legacy in local education, and people from across America come through the doors, and find inspiration from the Stax story.
  • This is an amazing museum. It's especially well-done considering that the building and contents were reconstructed from photos and memories after years of having been demolished. You can tell that lots of love and care went into making this place what it is. In the end it's very educational and a suitable tribute to everything that Stax was.
