  • All I can say is that every single person needs to go here. Beware though, it’s very emotional. I choked back tears - often unsuccessfully - during most of my time there. The museum has been built aro...  more »

  • This is WORTH the money! You can literally stand just feet from where the fatal shot took it's final resting place. Hear words from Dr. Kings family, watch television broadcasts that bring you right into the moment. SO MOVING! Make sure to go in and watch the short video, on the other side is the rest of the museum! See the actual bus that Rosa Parks took her famous seat, you can actually pose for a picture right beside her! Great for all ages!
  • The experience was enlightening and exceptional. I visited the museum before and this experience was completely different. For anyone who hasn't visited, you must add this to your list of things to do. The staff was helpful and provided historical facts. The art work and the visuals were stimulating and thought provoking. I will be visiting again in the near future.
  • One of the best museums anywhere … Allow LOTS of time and be in the mindset where you are ready to absorb a lot. This museum is SO well done and so relevant. Hard as it might be, it is very important to stand near where Dr. King fell. And also to stand where his assassin fired. This is a mix of modern displays and actual historic places frozen in time. At the end someone tries to work in other agendas, which actually take away somewhat from what should be the sole focus, but that 2% does not ruin the experience. Make this a priority as you plan the historically significant places you want to see in your lifetime. Great BBQ is practically across the street, so you can keep your strength up partway through your visit and finish strong.
  • How can I accurately describe an emotional and moving experience? The museum is a national treasure similar to the Smithsonian but maybe more important. There is so much to take in, one time is not enough. To be practical, reading all the exhibits is not going to happen. So you take it in, what you can and experience the museum in your own way. This museum is not all about Dr. Martin Luther King, it is about civil rights. My wife from Burma asked a black couple "what does civil rights mean to you?" They responded "freedom." We followed each other through the museum, a memorable moment took place when our friends from Miami and I stood in the very bus the honorable Rosa Parks was defiant, thrown off and arrested for not moving to the back. The museum presents this moment in history so well that my new friends and I were moved at once, almost speechless. We looked at each other and said "she was very brave." The museum reminds us how far we've come, and possibly how much more work there is to do.
  • This was an incredible experience and I highly recommend to everyone. It is long so plan a half day to be here in order to truly take in everything. The museum focuses not only on MLKs death but on the civil Rights movement as a whole and features many influential people. It is highly educational and emotional and also does an amazing job of connecting past movements to present ones.
