  • Spent a wonderful fall Sunday afternoon here. The garden is inexpensive, easy to get to, not overwhelming in size. For its size, the variety is abundant. This place is calm, peaceful, beautiful and in...  read more »
  • My dad has THE most incredible garden - with vegetables, fruits and flowers. BUT, his daughter (yours truly) is a poor example of a plant proliferation protégé. As I work to reform my ways, the Memphis Botanic Garden is a godsend. With that, I truly appreciate the MBG's plant sales throughout the year, along with their education programs for both kids AND adults. I've also been to many a concert on the lawn, events in the Grand Gallery, and I haven't been let down once. NOT once. Wherever you are on the grounds, there's an intimate feel, despite the nearly 100 acre expanse. It's due to the fact that the gardens are sectioned off into various different settings. My favorite vista is the amazing Japanese Garden of Tranquility. It's arguably one of the best settings in Memphis, aside from the views on and around the Mississippi River. The pond, the swans and the geese just bring me peace - within. Yes. It rhymed and I liked it. If you are looking for an activity for children, My Big Backyard is for you. Woot! In addition to the Live at the Garden concert series, I've really enjoyed different events in the Grand Gallery - an enclosed hall with a seated area and an outdoor water garden. The cost ranges from FREE to $8 per visit!!!!!! Even if you don't have enough time to visit this treasure of a 28-garden experience, you can just do lunch at Fratelli's Cafe. Plain and simple. There is no excuse to miss out on the joy that is The Memphis Botanic Garden.
  • Great koi pond, butterfly garden was lacking in butterflies and less designed flower spaces than I'd hoped. Good size though, just big enough to enjoy it and small enough so you can easily see it all in an hour or so!
  • The membership price here feels like a steal. I take my preschool age kids here once a week. We almost always go to Big Backyard only but membership includes entry to the entire Botanic Gardens. In Big Backyard shoes are always required but on a hot day you can cool off in your swimsuit under the rain simulator sprinkler. Pack a picnic because there are lots of places to eat a snack. Bonus in Big Backyard your are always within "running while holding your kid" distance of a "potty." Located next to the ballroom OR in the education building next to mud pies.
  • This is a pleasant garden and I enjoyed the art in the visitors center. We spent all of our time in the children's area, running off energy before getting back in the car to drive. This area is expansive with some great features, like the fig plants and the stream. However, it seemed under maintained. It was a nice stop, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit.
  • They are doing such great work here! Our kids love to go play in the Big backyard! We really enjoy our time here. The only recommendation I have is to do more gardening at night because when you are trying to enjoy the park all the carts and noise around park is not great. Otherwise we love relaxing by the lake and feeding the fish :-)
