The Devils Rope Barbed Wire Museum is a museum located in McLean, Texas, USA. The museum was officially opened in 1991 and focuses on barbed wire and its history. The museum is thought to have the largest collection of published material concerning barbed wire.

The Devil's Rope Museum is housed in a converted brassiere factory and is dedicated to the history of barbed wire, fencing tools, and ranching heritage. Features exhibits and collections from private wire collectors from across the U.S, a reference library with extensive patent information for researchers and educators, a dust bowl exhibit, salesman samples, warfare wire, and a collection of road lore with artifacts dedicated to the Texas portion of Historic Route 66.

  • Mclean, TX is basically a ghost town where people still live. It's hayday was from the turn of the last century when oil was becoming king up to the time Interstate 40 was completed through the area. ...  more »

  • Cool museum with a lot of history. Never knew that barbed wire could be so fascinating. Free to get in but donations are appreciated.
  • I stopped by on a road trip across the country. I had no idea how many different types of barbed wire there were! There is also a great collection of Route 66 memorabilia.
  • Delightful walk back in time among photos and memorabilia. Great tribute to the history of Route 66. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Lots of good souvenirs to choose from.
