We took a hike in Ponderosa State Park. There are views of water (Payette Lake) and also dense forests. It was lovely and very few hikers in September. Be sure to take a bear bell or make noise as you...  more »

This park is fabulous! The cleanest bathrooms we experienced in our 3-month road trip! It is in a beautiful setting of trees, and the spaces were large and easy to get into. The signage was well done,...  more »

One of the most beautiful lakes that I have ever visited. A great paved path leading around the lake. Perfect for someone who is unable to walk on stable ground.

I use to come here when I was a little girl and stay next door (Taylor's park) with my grandparents. I would ride my bike all over pondarosa and had a blast. So I am sad to say that I'm disappointed with how money Hungry the park seems to be now. The park is very clean and well kept but the price is a bit high for what you pay for. $75.00 for 2 nights (full hook ups) . But I figure I had so many wonderful memories here in the past that it should be worth it. In the old pondarosa park they was logging going on which is sad since it's a state park why would we need to log there of all places?!? The deer are no longer afraid of people in any way shape or form and not to mention the firewood is sky high priced. For goodness sakes your in the woods!! Why am I paying 5$ for a small bundle of wood that is picked up from the left over fire pit and rebounded and resold. Over all the scenery was beautiful and the lake is just how I remember it but I don't think I'll be returning at the current prices.

My fiance and I came in early in the morning while traveling to stay at the campground for a couple days. We arrived late at night, and we saw on the info board that qoute "offer 5$ a day camping" and that we could grab a site as long as it wasn't reserved on the list. We checked the list, wrote down what was available, and paid $10 to the envelope and went to our site. The following day, we were approached by a camp manager saying we were taking up a reserved spot. He told us they do NOT allow walk up camping, reservation only, starting at $32 A DAY. That would have been nice to know, if that information was posted anywhere on the entrance where you pay. But it was not posted. The only info available was that they offer $5 DAY camping, however it was misleading because what they meant is one day and no night. That was not posted either. We assumed it was an ordinary campsite. We were told by one man that we would be refunded/accomidated. They didn't attempt to accomidate us, the lady at the visitor center instead gave us a print out list of prices and excuses before giving us a refund. They took zero accountability on their part. Beware, while beautiful, the campground is misleading. I have never been kicked out of a campground before, let alone been to a reservation only site. Ponderosa should be more clear in their business.
