We hiked all the way down to the blowhole and wow I'm so thankful we decided to make the hike! This was so much fun and a great experience. The hike is quite difficult and very rocky. I will be doing ... read more »
If your rental car permits (which most don't) take a drive to the blowhole and experience the spectacular views. Our rental car wasn't supposed to go there but we went anyway which I'm pretty sure is ... read more »
We took the longer walk down from the parking lot at mile marker 38. While the guidebooks said the path was well-marked, it really wasn't, and there were a number of us trying to figure out which way ... read more »
Great spot. Wear good shoes and go on a sunny day. You can get close if you are ambitious, but the view from further out is still cool. Better with binocs or zoom lens. Use common sense of your capabilities and you will enjoy this place as well as the surrounding cliffs and beaches.
Tranquil, experienced it the first time back in May 2016 with my grandchildren and husband and today 7/30/16 with my Daughter, Maui is an amazing Island. It's a tad windy but overall was great.
Nakalele Blowhole is a pretty reliable blowhole, spewing large gusts of water high into the air with regularity. It's pretty accessible, requiring a moderate hike down from the road (part of the path is gravelly, but I did it in slippers carrying my 35-lb. son). There is no official signage from the road, but there is a hand-painted sign, and you'll see other cars parked there. There is also a snack stand and fresh coconuts near the entrance.
Definitely leave the flip flops in the car and put your shoes on. But this is an easy 5 minute hike down to the blowhole and well worth it! The views are amazing and the surf really pounds on the rocky coastline here. Best time to go is just before high tide when the sea is choppy!
Park at Mile Marker 38.5 (not 38). I know doesn't make sense, but will when you see it. Well worth the rocky climb down. Incredible view of blow hole that can shoot 20-30 feet high. Bring shoes, flip flops not advised!!
