Categories: Volcanos, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
3.9/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web
View colorful marine life such as moray eels, manta rays, octopuses, and white-tip reef sharks roaming the reef at the crescent-shaped, partially submerged volcanic Molokini Crater, which was created from an eruption hundreds of thousands of years ago. Snorkel to see creatures closer to the surface, or scuba dive to reach bigger fish in deeper water. The crater also serves as a bird sanctuary, so bring your binoculars if you like birding. If you're here in winter, you might glimpse humpback whales in the waters near the crater. Arrange to visit Molokini Crater and other attractions in Wailea using our Wailea travel itinerary maker.

  • The water at Molokini is amazingly clear and the reef is beautiful and full of fish. We loved this experience and would definitely go back! The only drawback was how busy it got. There were several ot...  read more »
  • While the boat ride to the crater was great (at one point we could see five islands, FIVE!), the snorkeling experience was just okay. I understand that each tour each day is different, but for the tim...  read more »
  • This is true. We booked our trip with Pacific Whale Foundation and took their Wild Side trip. The boat only carries a max of 38 passengers; we were 24. At 6 hours, this is a relatively long outing but...  read more »
  • Everybody stops by here for diving, and there's a REASON for it. I have never seen so many fish in my life! Went there with Lahaina Divers and we moored on the far west part of the crater, away from the other dive boats, where the land slopes down underwater. Perfect spot. One of the "must sees" for any diver.
  • Great but not 5 star amazing. Water was clear and lots of fish but on the surface you'll see and swim through a ton of debris that kinda ruins the atmosphere. Went with Boss Frog booking. The boat isn't as packed some describe it to be. Nice boat ride with free snacks and sandwich lunch. The water felt the same as snorkeling at the beach so don't get suckered into the 10$ wet suit rental sales pitch.
  • My wife and I snorkeled here on our honeymoon and had a blast. It was amazing seeing several turtles swimming right next to us! The water is super clear and marine life is abundant.
  • If you've been snorkeling and scuba in Hawaii DON'T GO. the visibility is incredible, but there are very few things to see, although we did see an octopus which was cool. There are many other better places to snorkel in other islands like big island and oahu.
  • Amazing snorkelling spot, full of life
