Oler couple: The "shady" spots are not continuous shady. You have limited choices on Javelina Camping Loop. Either early morning shade or late evening shade. None during the heat of the day on any site I could identify. 95% Mesquite trees. Uncomfortably hot. Very much a family park. Good lake and access for limited swimming. Newish fishing piers. No fish were being caught per fishers. I would suggest older couples visit very early spring or very late fall.

Lot 76! That was us! We swam, enjoyed trails, the castle was all great. Relaxing fun time with the family and other's there. Look forward to all the other times we plan to visit.

Great park for fishing and camping. Only complaint is the restrooms are TERRIBLE and nasty. I've camped at over 12 sites. Dirtiest. I'd give it 4-5 stars of restrooms were clean like all other state parks.

Great place to camp in the spring and fall. Just make sure to make a reservation cause campsites fill up fast.

Lake and traffic was easy pace. Our site was at lake edge. Easy for boat boarding and exiting of family. Only issue we had was people walking through tent site to get to the water. Which was common. Lighted fishing pier!
