Inside the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, look for Elizabethan Gardens, a memorial to the first colonists marked by renaissance statues and meticulously managed landscapes. The 4 hectare (10 acre) park features shaded paths that will lead you through forests and colorful plazas, and you'll see interpretive plaques with useful information about each important sight.
