Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway, Manitou Springs

Rail Tour · Tour
The Cog Railway is back on track and open for business. Closed for a three-year rebuild, this iconic attraction features a new depot, new track and new/refurbished trains. The unforgettable ride starts in the charming mountain town of Manitou Springs. The depot has two gift shops, a new restroom facility, elevator and charming platform to wait on as you eagerly anticipate boarding your designated train. Along your 9-mile journey to the 14,115' summit of Pikes Peak, a National Historic Landmark, you'll enjoy beautiful scenery that is home to a range of wildlife, from fox, coyotes and elk among the pine trees of Pike National Forest to bighorn sheep and whistling yellow-bellied marmots above timberline. At the summit of America's Mountain, you'll enjoy sweeping 360-degree views of Colorado Springs, Woodland Park, Cripple Creek and Victor. These are the vistas that inspired the words to America the Beautiful and have drawn generations of explorers and travelers. Awaiting you at the summit is the new Pikes Peak Summit Visitor Center, with educational interpretive exhibits, an excellent array of food choices (don't miss out on the high-altitude donuts!) and an elevated walkway leading you to the jaw-dropping views from the Northern Overlook. • We loved our trip up and down Pikes Peak on the new Cog Railway! The scenery was beautiful! Our only disappointment was our time at the top. 40-45 minutes is NOT enough time to walk around...  more »
  • Great trip regardless of the absolutely horrific conductor. From the moment we boarded, we were constantly being barked at by the conductor. First we are told to drink plenty of water, but then the....  more »

  • U will never experience a better natural surrounding like this unique ride. It's a rolling history event once u leave the station. *tip-take a jacket cause there is a 25--30 degree differential at the top. Also, it's not a hour ride. It's a minimum 3 hr experience and worth every minute and dime. Boulders the size of a full size SUV. Talk about high with a different meaning.
  • I really wanted to love this. Everyone on the train was very kind. Everything looked very nice. However, despite the lovely views, it was pure torture for me. If I had gone alone, I genuinely would have gotten off the train before it even departed. The seats are practically child-sized and very uncomfortable. The seats face one another and leg room was clearly not taken into consideration. I'm about 5'5" and the woman across from me couldn't have been taller than 4'8". It was lucky we got along well because our legs were practically intertwined. On the way down, I found myself holding her small child because the incline had caused the little girl to slip and fall into my lap. The only reason I would ever consider taking this train again is if I became an actor and was studying for a role as a canned sardine. If you have any sort of disability, do yourself a favor and do not take this train. I was in pain the next day from the way I was forced to sit. I'm not just talking about physical disabilities either. If you have autism, a panic disorder, or a sensory processing disorder, you will not have a good time.
  • Went on a beautiful day with no clouds or wind. Incredible views. Unfortunately it was overshadowed by some questionable management. First delay on the way up was due to a track switch malfunction. Crew had to disembark and manually switch the tracks which took about 15min. Not a huge deal, but still a delay. On the way down, we waited nearly 1 hour while the “snow plow” train was put into storage. Apparently this was the most appropriate time to do it? Meanwhile everyone is sitting in sweltering heat, no breeze wondering why we have to wait. I don’t know a lot about running a train company, but I’d move the plow train when customers aren’t having to sit on the track and wait. Like seriously, why??? In the end, we arrived back at the bottom almost an exact hour behind schedule, most of which was spent sitting in the heat. Incredibly frustrating and an immense amount of perceived incompetence. We will not be back and we will not recommend it to others.
  • We've rode the cog rail several times over the past 20 years. The views are amazing, not only when you reach the top, but also the entire ride up to the summit. You will have plenty of photo ops along the way!
  • My friends and I have had reservations and plans to hike Pikes Peak for months now. Recently I just learned that the summit it closed to cars, pedestrians, and hikers. Even if you take the round trip train, you can only see the platform. No taking pictures with the sign, no getting out and about at the summit. When I spoke with the receptionist she failed to mention any of this. Supposedly they are already dealing with a PR issue and I guess are trying to avoid more bad PR. The young lady even told me hikers made the summit yesterday and we're able to take the train down. She encouraged me to take our chances. After getting more information and speaking with the manager he informed me we could not do that and they made the summit illegally. The lack of clear & honest communication and information is shocking and frankly negligent. Also to note, you cannot purchase a one-way (down ) ticket ahead of time. You can only purchase round trip tickets at $58 ahead of time. If you only want a one way down ticket ($35) then you have to purchase at the summit and hope they have seats available. Again, she said you just have to take your chances. Another safety issue. So to be safe make sure you buy the Round-Trip ticket ahead of time to ensure you can get back down if you're not planning to hike down.
