  • I love history and beautiful views so this place was perfect. The drive down the long road was a little muddy due to wet weather earlier in the week so be careful if you have a car. Our SUV was fine o...  more »

  • Very interesting place! The house has a Lincoln exhibit, including, for example, his famous stovepipe hat. The grounds are extensive, wish we had gone when the garden was blooming though. The views are gorgeous. I can see why it was used by the presidential family. Make sure you walk through the train car! It has been refurbished in its original style, and I've never seen anything like it--truly gives a sense of the time and place.
  • This a beautifully preserved home, built by Abe and Mary Lincoln's only son to survive to adulthood, Robert Lincoln. He was president of the Pullman Car Company, and the community has added a spectacularly restored luxury Pullman Car on the premise. There is also an adorable working goat farm to stroll through. We couldn't resist purchasing the local goat cheese from the gift shop. The house has panoramic views of the Green Mountains and beautiful gardens. Inside the home, you'll see original furniture, including a large unique organ that, when played, can be heard throughout the home.
  • Absolutely loved it! Beautiful grounds, amazing views and the house was just filled with history. I'm already planning a return trip next June and bringing friends. All the volunteers were so friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone should experience Hildene at least once.
  • The Hildene guided tour was extremely informative. Ann was so knowledgeable of the property and the Lincoln family. I would recommend this site to anyone in the Manchester, Vt, area. And definitely pay the extra 7.50 for the guided tour... You won't be disappointed if you like history. Also, take time to see the Pullman car.
  • The house, the gardens, the view, and the Pullman car are all worth the price of admission but what really made the visit for my companion and I was a complete tour of the grounds in a tractor drawn wagon. This trip, which took almost two hours, covered all of the agricultural projects in progress on the property as well as the floating boardwalk and the 19th century one-room schoolhouse. Our guide, Richard, was both knowledgeable and passionate about the work being done on site. Our visit to Hildene ranks among our most memorable travelling experiences.
