Nestled in a scenic village, Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home offers a glimpse into American history. The former summer home of Robert Lincoln, President Lincoln's eldest son, was completed in 1905 in the Georgian Revival style. The house was restored together with the outbuildings and gardens in 1978 when a non-profit organization bought the property. To learn more about the history of the place, watch the promotional video. Make the most of 19 km (12mi) of walking trails and visit the goat farm, teaching greenhouse, and the wooden Pullman palace car from 1903. What a treat to experience this beautiful piece of history! We were fortunate enough to visit during the Christmas season and the decorations were incredible! This is a wonderful place to visit any time of the year, I can image, and we’ll definitely be back again. Don’t miss out on visiting this estate. It will transport you into history with an unspoiled mountain vista for a backdrop.
Thoroughly enjoyed touring the home and grounds of the Lincoln family home in Manchester VT. The grounds and gardens with views of the Green Mountains are exquisite! The mansion is lovingly kept true to the era and the docents are very knowledgeable and helpful. The Pullman car was very interesting and beautifully renovated. The goat farm was filled with well-kept goats and we watched fresh cheese being wrapped. The grounds are immaculate and there are trams available for those who prefer rides rather than walk the paths and trails of such a large estate.
What an amazing history lesson! While Abe himself never had the chance to visit, his very successful son in his own right hosted many other high profile guests. I highly suggest the guided tour to really be immersed in your surroundings. Also make sure you check out the working farm and Pullman train car. Plan to spend 2-3 hours here, even longer if you choose to hike the huge network of trails.
The cost of entry is quite expensive, but the grounds are beautifully kept. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about everything they had to display. The gift shop had some great little local Vermont treats, made right on the Hildene farm. Overall, a beautiful and interesting experience; definitely recommend.
Hildene is absolutely beautiful. It's really a historical place, beautiful to behold and there staffs are accommodating! The atmosphere is great with lot beautiful landscape, furniture, architecture, arts, historical objects, sculpture, cars, trains and the grounds are amazing. I can't wait to go back with my family ! Thank you everyone at Hildene for the great experience
