Where to stay in Madison

The university and state politics draw a constant stream of visitors to Madison, so you'll find a wide range of accommodations in the city. Numerous hotels circle the campus, and some of these overlook Lake Mendota. Moving onto the isthmus between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona, you'll find a handful of charming inns and bed and breakfasts, most of which offer panoramic views of the water. Areas south of Lake Monona feature national chain hotels and motels. These sit farther away from the action around campus and the State Capitol Building, but they can also offer water views and quiet settings near some of Madison's many parks.

  • It took 60 years for this impressive center to come to life, almost 30 years after Wright died. It's an amazing facility located near Wisconsin's state capital and on Lake Monona. The beautiful roofto...  more »
  • What a view! It's worth paying the high prices at the food stand just to get a table and stare out at the lake...we ordered a small lemonade, small Coke, small french fry and a cookie for $12. It's not ...  more »

  • Monona Terrace is a quirky Frank Lloyd Wright designed building. As such some things like the placement of the bathrooms can be awkward. But the view over the lake is amazing and the conference rooms are functional and flexible for conventions of small and medium size. Catering is always great, definitely in tune with allergy needs and personal choices. Parking garage and traffic are the only real drawbacks here, but neither of them are show stoppers.
  • Wasn't sure what to expect when I my daughter mentioned this "Monona Terrace" thing, ended up being a very cool little visit. Nice facility, nice view, pleasant walk on the lake. If it wasn't a holiday would have liked to ate at the cafe. Seemed like a nice relaxing way to end our weekend in Madison.
  • A very anti-bike organization. They go out of their way to reduce bike access in downtown Madison. Also, why do we have such a large lakefront parking garage? Finally, it feels like a hotel from the 90's inside. Puuuuuke.
  • It's a beautiful place to have an event. The staff are great, both helpful and friendly. Just don't expect a good meal. The food is a little better than a good T.V. dinner but at a much higher price.
  • Great venue for conferences no issues 'll week. Decent layout. Good size.
