Arch Rock, Mackinac Island

4.7
#2 of 38 in Things to do in Mackinac Island
Geologic Formation Nature / Park
A natural limestone arch in Mackinac Island State Park, Arch Rock stands 45 m (146 ft) above Lake Huron. The arch, which was created after the end of the Wisconsin glacial episode, forms a perfect window through which to view the lake. Because the sediment forming the arch is not ideal for creating natural bridges, this particular arch is uncommon in the region. Native Americans saw the arch as a place of divine power and based many stories and legends around it. To get here, you can walk or bike the trails, or take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage. • Everyone has to have a picture from Arch Rock. Rent a bike and see the entire island. Arch Rock makes a nice post card and is at the top of the island.  more »
  • The photos we took turned out beautiful. The carriage tour stopped here for a few minutes so we could walk to the Arch.  more »

  • Great view, thoroughly enjoyed the walk out there. I think we had expectations beyond what it was able to deliver, very touristy spot, but I'm glad we went to see it once.
  • Very nice view and worth the walk from downtown. This is a popular attraction and it can get busy or difficult to get a picture. Arrive early or later for the best photos.
  • One of the real nice spots I remember from my visit to Michigan over 30 years ago. Well worth the walk from the pier ;-)
  • See it once, then find more interesting things on the island.
  • Pretty nice landscape feature with a great view at the top
