(4.5/5 based on 170+ reviews on the web)
Friends of Ellen Trout Zoo (F.O.E.T.Z.) is an organization that assists the Zoo in a supportive capacity. F.O.E.T.Z. focuses on funding for major expansion and renovation projects in the Zoo's master plan. Giraffes, Rhinoceroses, and Hippopotamuses are now featured at the Zoo in exhibits funded by F.O.E.T.Z. Projects like the new Education Building and future projects such as a Primate Island, a Lake Nature Trail, and improvements to the Small Animal Building among others are goals of the organization.

Membership is a good value for people interested in animal conservation as well as helping to support funding for projects. Community events such as Zoo Boo add to the good will of the zoo. Fundraisers help F.O.E.T.Z. achieve the big goals. The Friends of the Ellen Trout Zoo invite you to be part of something big in East Texas.

  • This is a remarkable destination and includes fun for the entire family....join in for a ride on the train or just a ZOO tastic experience.

  • This zoo is unique because you're not always out in the hot sun like a lot of zoos. They are working the "rain forest" look by letting vegetation grow abundant. You will feel the heat, but you won't burn up like at big city zoos where there is no relief from the heat.
  • Best small town zoo! The shaded paths throughout the zoo will keep you cool as you stroll the wonderful exhibits. My family has an annual pass and we visit quite frequently.
  • A bit of a drive from Dallas but totally worth it. Best little zoo. Better exhibits than even the Dallas Zoo. And there are so many fun places to stop along the way.
  • My first trip to the zoo I was pleasantly surprised by the amount/variety of animals! If you're wanting to sneak a peek at the Louisiana Pine Snake look no further! Would recommend a zoo membership if you're looking for a short, entertaining walk a couple of times a week/month or if you have children. Would be great to see the animals receive more enrichment toys!
  • My favorite zoo! Well-kept, friendly people, great price to see the animals. We live the train ride
