  • The hike to the lighthouse is easy but fun. The Lighthouse itself is spectacular and worthy of some photos. You have to climb the 100plus steps to the top and experience the great views and the wind!  more »

  • The two mile hike from the campground entrance is worth it to get to this beautiful lighthouse along the beach and sand dunes in Ludington State Park. The lighthouse is 150 years old, built and lit in 1867. It has a great view of Lake Michigan and the scrub brush and sand dunes. The museum and gift shop are great with reasonable prices and a very good selection of items from different Lighthouses in the area. They also have a lot of different clothing items and designs on jackets, hoodies, windbreakers and t-shirts. The walk to and from the Lighthouse has some very pretty scenery including ponds filled with frogs, some sand dunes you can climb on and explore, and lots of shoreline and seabirds to enjoy along the way. Ride a bike if you can, it's a 20 minute walk at least or more if you take the scenic detours 😁
  • Amazing! One of the coolest lighthouses in Michigan. I drove all the way from east Michigan to see (and check out Ludington!). If you want to get a nice walk in, weather permitting, I recommend starting in the state park and walking along the beach until you get to the lighthouse-very worth it for the view.
  • It's a 2 mile walk from the parking area to the lighthouse. If you have bicycles I suggest using them. Most of the walking is on sand covered asphalt because it's a path on the other side of the dunes. It closes at five in the fall so we had to hustle through the path and immediately climb up the lighthouse. Great workout that day. The lighthouse is pretty and to me it was worth it. To my husband it was not. It has great views! You can go on the outside balcony at the top. They have a small gift shop and everything is ran by volunteers. *fyi the beginning of the path starts at the other end of the campground area and there is a small sign. Nothing is marked well here at all!!!!
  • Easy 3+ mile hike from Pines Campground in Ludington State Park. Flat, well-pack, wide trail. Stroller(bigger wheels) friendly. Jack Pines Campground is a walk-in camping area halfway between the Pines Campground and the Big Sable Point Lighthouse. They have restrooms with pit toilets and no running water. When I was there in February, they were both clean and well stocked with TP and hand sanitizer. This site is a great place to visit because it's off the beaten path far enough to preserve it from being too tourist-y - no dumpsters of fast-food trash, etc-; yet the hike is just as easy as taking a walk down the sidewalk, so it's not prohibitive to most anyone who really would like to go.
  • Beautiful views from top of the lighthouse. The legacy of the house and inn keepers was very interesting. I loved the wooden planks all along the lighthouse as well to Lake Michigan it was fun see all the loving words written along the waters and you can even do your own memorial plank for $100.00. Again Beautiful A Must See !!
