Lion Country Safari, Loxahatchee

#50 of 630 in Wildlife in Florida
Purportedly the first "cageless" animal park in the United States, the touring roads through Lion Country Safari weave among animals commonly found on African safari. After purchasing a ticket to the park, you'll be handed an audiotape or CD to play as a guided tour for your drive. It is important to drive slowly and keep doors and windows closed at all times. In the chimpanzee exhibit, chimps mimic their natural behavior by migrating from island to island within the park, and the exhibit are also used to research the primates' complex behavior. After the driving tour, the visit Safari World Ferris wheel, petting zoo, and rides. • It is called Lion Country Safari but the best part is where the rhinos and zebras are located. The entire drive through is outstanding and accompanied by a park supplier CD narrative of what you are seeing. Animals wander around and do not care you are there or driving - and they have the right of way! Hard to argue with a 3 ton rhino! All animals were visible with most active and moving. Except the lions - they were all sleeping but visible. The drive can be slow and harder to hold attention of younger children but the park also has a more interactive part with rides, more animals, and food/drink. All is laid out in an easily walked set of trails and interspersed with birds and different trees and flowers. Food was surprisingly good for a park like this and reasonably priced. Limited beer also available and can be carried around the trails. The walking part will be of interest to all, especially the younger kids. One reasonable fee gets you into all for the day. Only food/drink is extra. Well worth the trip but allow 4-5 hours.
  • This place is tons of fun. There is just so much to do with kids. They have kiddie rides, mini golf, boat rides, and so much to see and learn from the animals there. You can pet the goats, feed the giraffes, feed the birds, enjoy educational shows, and there's a nice size water park. That's just in the park. The safari is a whole other wonderful experience where you get to drive through and see the lions and certain animals so close up that they're next to your window such as rhinos, giraffes, ostriches, and so much more. I strongly recommend the yearly pass if you think you'll go at least 3 times a year.
  • Best zoo I've ever been to hands down. For the price you get so much extras included like: mini golf, paddle boats, a nice water park for the kids with 2 big slides, and a great/cleanly environment. Wish it wasn't so far from me or I'd buy an annual membership and go every weekend!! Love the fact that you can drive through and see the animals in their habitat. We had an ostrich walk up to our car and start packing the tree sap off the top!! Great time
  • Great place to visit. Our group ranged in ages from 4 to 65. There was something for all. Plenty of different species of animal for all to watch and great photo opportunities with no cages blocking your shots. Highly recommend cleaning the windows of your vehicle before you visit because they must stay rolled up! After the drive through safari there is an area with rides also provided in the all inclusive price. A nice restaurant available with fast and tasty selections available - with more than the average hot dogs and hamburgers! Food trucks are also parked on site for even more variety. A very enjoyable time. Make sure to allow at least 3-4 hrs.
  • I am so glad I decided to take my family here!! My girls (four and two years old) LOVED it! My husband and I did as well! There were tons of animals that came right up to our car, cute little nature trails, rides and an adorable splash pad. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely visit again as it was one of the highlights of our week in Florida.
