Conrad-Caldwell House Museum (Conrad's Castle), Louisville

Historic Site · Hidden Gem · Specialty Museum
The Conrad-Caldwell House Museum is located at the heart of Old Louisville, one of the largest Victorian neighborhoods in the nation. Situated at the corner of Magnolia Avenue and St James Court, the Museum stands as one of the finest buildings in the area. Remarkable in its completeness as a Victorian structure, this building was created with the finest craftsmanship and design, and contained all the latest innovations for its time. It has been lovingly restored and brought back to life as a family home circa 1908, when the Caldwell family lived here. It now is open for tours Wednesday through Sunday, and by appointment. The mansion contains antiques appropriate to the era, including many of the original pieces from the Conrad and Caldwell families. We enjoy the continued involvement of the Caldwell family, one of the things which sets us apart from other historic homes, and makes it seem much more a “home” than a museum.

As a non-profit organization with 501(c)3 status, The Conrad-Caldwell House Museum relies on your support in order to survive. While we are able to generate some income with our tours and rentals, we do ask that you consider making a donation to the Museum in order to ensure our continued success.

Office hours are Tuesday - Saturday 10 - 4 and Sunday 12 - 4. Tours are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday 1 & 3 PM, and Saturday 11, 1 & 3, or by appointment.

  • I went there twice. Once for just a normal history tour and once again for the Halloween Lamplight Tour. Both tours were great. It's a very beautiful place and has a lot of interesting history to it.  more »

  • If I could give it 10 STARS, I would!! The MOST amazing historical place I have EVER seen. I highly recommend that EVERYONE visit this AWESOME place, to walk back into time, and revisit the PAST!! The tour guide is an actual LIVING relative with 1ST HAND knowledge & incredible stories!! This Castle/Mansion has even been featured on the show PARANORMAL ACTIVITY.... OUTSTANDING!! PLEASE do yourself a FAVOR, & take this FANTASTIC tour!!!
  • Love, Love, Loved this!!! We called to see about a tour and they said they weren't open. (the online search engine was WRONG!) I was so bummed, while we were in town, this was 1 of my must sees. Thankfully they had a tour coming in and were able to fit us in! So thankful! Delighted to see that the Conrad and Caldwell families are still taking care of the house! That made it that much more special!
  • If you like architecture tours this is one of the better ones that I have been on, the docent made it all happen. Lots of history and authentic pieces as well as great stories about the history of Louisville. The tour takes about an hour but it's really an hour back in time.
  • Amazing late 19th c architecture. Old Louisville at its finest! And their website has a handy clock telling you when the next tour will be, very convenient!
  • This is a beautiful house with a lot of historical significance to Louisville! The staff is engaging and friendly, and the tour guides even have a family connection to the house. It's a fantastic way to spend an hour and a half if you're ever in Louisville!
