  • I love coming out here every so often to watch the races and have a good time. They offer a little something for everyone - from the Family Adventure Sundays to the Downs After Dark and the party scene. It's a lot of fun to sped time at such an important part of Kentucky history. Food and drinks are a little overpriced. But if you go into it knowing you're going to have to spend a little money, you won't be disappointed.
  • The Churchill Downs is an impressive place full of history and great architectural structures. The Churchill Downs have a museum as well with tours of the derby. The tour takes you into the derby field where the horses run and you can watch the horses while they exercise with their trainers. They also have a big parking area and the seats are confortable. The tour also gives you the history of all the horses that have won and what their odds were. Overall I recommend for anyone of any age to go visit the Churchill Downs. One thing I could not wrap my head around was how the Churchill Downs has house 157,000 people in the past.
  • Drive around back and park in lot 1 at gate 10 for free. Cheap entertainment for an afternoon. It wasn't crowded, so we were able to find seats in the shade at the finish line quite easily. It wasn't as pretty as I expected, but it was still a fun experience.
  • This was a fun last minute excursion. We thoroughly enjoyed the video introduction, walking tour, and museum. We just happened to arrive in time to see a race! Then we stopped in the cafe for dessert and mint juleps, our server was kind enough to make a "virgin" version for my son with iced tea. Make time to visit and take in a race!
  • Fun place to visit. If you don't know - there is a dress code it you want 2 be inside. Also if you don't know how 2 bet the horses, there is no explanation. Food is average. Drinks are better but a little pricey. You are a captive audience so to speak.

Where to stay in Louisville

Old Town has a number of atmospheric hotels close to the city’s main attractions, while hotels in the Highlands neighborhood offer proximity to the city’s most unusual bars, restaurants, and stores. Louisville’s collection of bed and breakfasts, generally farther from town, are a great way to experience some warm Kentucky hospitality. To save some money and enjoy the city’s scenic surroundings on a vacation in Louisville, consider one of Louisville’s campgrounds. The Jefferson Memorial Forest is just 24 km (15 mi) south of downtown.
