Hollywood Sign, Los Angeles
Categories: Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Overlooking the Hollywood area of Los Angeles, Hollywood Sign is an icon of popular culture in the United States. You'll recognize this sign from its many appearances in movies set in and around Hollywood. Although it often denotes the excitement of the Golden Era of Hollywood, the sign actually stands on the spot where starlet Peg Entwistle died in 1932. To see the most famous view of the sign from below, look up from Hollywood Boulevard. Make Hollywood Sign a part of your Los Angeles vacation plans using our Los Angeles vacation trip planner.

We drove up to Lake Hollywood Park (it is a drive up the mountains but very worth it)!! We were able to see the sign very clearly and we were as close as possible without owning property in the area! ... read more »
nice view from the Griffiths observatory , you cannot view it in the dark though. you can also have a good view from the Dolby theatre
Be careful when you book a tour for this! Our driver informed us as we entered Hollywood that he could not take us to the sign, no vans/buses were allowed. We were disappointed that our pictures show ... read more »
This is a fun hike, it is not really challenging for those who are fit. I imagine it would probably be harder if someone doesn't exercise regularly. The view is fun, while climbing up, one can see downtown LA, Hollywood, and most of LA county. I would recommend just for the cool pictures from the top of the hike.
Really fun hike to do with a group. Great view of LA and it is fun to get to the sign. You can get behind it and be reasonable close to it or take another hike to see it from the front at a somewhat large distance. I have done the hike multiple times and always enjoyed it. There is no shade so be sure to be ready for the heat and bring water. This hike can take 2-6 hours depending on your pace and which hike you actually take.
It's so mesmerizing and I recently went in late May 2016 to LA, for the first time for a dance performance . And on the days I didn't have to perform me and my mom and my friends visited Hollywood and I looked to the right and i saw the beautiful Hollywood sign. Mind you I'm from New York City so it was just a beautiful experience.
awesome view of almost all of greater Los Angeles. I'll never forget thanksgiving of 1999 my friends and I decided to hike from the observatory to the sign. it took us about 4 hours to get there and hour and a half to get back (mostly downhill). when we got there it was fenced off with cameras and no trespassing signs. I said I'm not going back without taking a picture under the W since my last initial is W. so we all jumped the fence and went admired the view for about 20 mins. till our parents started paging us to come home for thanksgiving dinner. we were all late. all you youngsters who don't know what "paging" is, it's what we used to use before there were cell phones. lol
Loved biking to the Sign. Lots of people do it, so be careful when riding down the mountain. If you ride to it from Griffith Park via Muholland trail, note that you'll have to walk your bike on the trail.
