This is not your typical marine aquarium. It is on a smaller scale with more emphasis on helping the environment and conservation. There is a moderate sized touch tank with different type of marine li... read more »
Great place to teach and learn about marine biology on your way across the parking lot to the actual beach! Fun for kids and adults with $1 or $5 donation to enter.
Hidden jewel - especially if you have kids to delight & entertain them for a few hours. The exhibitions are fascinating & the museum is small & well designed flow allows for giving kids some autonomy/... read more »
Went on labor day weekend. Was packed. 9$ flat rate parking. Was looking a nice diverse crowd...NOT!! And there are biting kind of baby sand crabs or something that nibbled on my feet the whole time. time. Bolsa chica or seal beach is better.
I grew up in the neighborhood and remember going there as a kid; today I had a chance to return and take my own child there. I was pleasantly surprised that it appears that it has been expanded and renovated. The staff was every bit as friendly as I recall from childhood, and for the relatively low donation a great way to spend a few hours.
This is a cool little spot for what it is: a FREE aquarium (donation strongly suggested). If you are expecting the Aquarium of the Pacific, turn around and head to Long Beach. Give a donation. This place stays open on donations and the goodwill of volunteers. Cool exhibits and touch tanks make this a worthwhile destination if you find yourself in San Pedro. The whole aquarium + gift shop takes 2 hrs or less. Enjoy!
Cannot beat free/suggested donation. Parking was $1/hour but you can get in and out in no more than 2 hours. Love the 2 jellyfish exhibits, and there was a whale skeleton model (or is it real?) hanging on the ceiling. This place is small but you know it's not there for profit (not commercialized like the Aquarium of the Pacific). It provides great learning opportunity for children. We came here on a school field trip and we came back again a month later. They are also right next to the beach with a swing and a slide in case you have small children.
This Aquarium is specifically designed around the animals that are indigenous to Southern California! It's has an Amazing Library, an Aquatic Nursery & a Education Center along with the Aquarium itself!!! The staff is super friendly & willing to take the time to answer any and all the questions you have. A great place for kids & grownups alike.
