  • I've added one star since my last review. Long Grove has not been a full day's outing for a long time, but there have been enough improvements lately to provide a a pleasant afternoon. There are still...  more »
  • We visited downtown Long Grove after visiting the confectionary. About half is being renovated and worked on and the rest is pretty good. The stores were priced well and interesting.
  • Not as quaint as we remembered. Some of the cuter shops we used to visit are gone now. Seems like they are having trouble competing with nearby chains. Sad in a way.

  • Absolutely amazing service. Fantastic food! This place is a family owned restaurant/cafĂ© with a gorgeous setting and stunning view. Long View Caffè isn't simply a user rated 5 star establishment but rather a true five star on every level!
  • Great little spot to enjoy good food and scenery.
  • This is a very good restaurant to have a nice meal outside. It's peaceful and relaxing. I prefer so much more to eat at this restaurant outside. Inside is nice but a little dark and not completely my style. The menu is above average. The daily specialS are very good and the appetisizers. If you want to eat outside and drink a martini and relax. Go here.
  • Awesome view ... wished the service and food matched up. We went in for an early dinner on Sunday, and the first thing I noticed about the staff is that they don't seem to give two hoots about customers unless they are, presumably,, regulars. We wanted to sit at the window seat overlooking the pond, and that did not, for some reason, sit well with our server. She tried seating us at a table away from the window. We insisted on sitting at the window, and finally, she gave in. Now, what is the first question which your server asks you once you are seated? "What would you like to drink?", right? So, we did not get this question. Our server appeared to take our appetizer orders, and and vanished again. Once she brought in the appetizers, I asked her whether we could have some water. She snootily informed us that WATER IS AVAILABLE ONLY ON REQUEST. I had to ask her whether any liquid would not be provided if we didn't ask for it. Her response -- I told you I will get you the water, so what's your complaint? My complaint, ma'am, is that we have been left at the table for about 30 minutes, without a glass. It gets better after that. Both me and my wife ordered the Jambalucci, and what came to our table was penne with shrimp and chorizo sausages. Both the shrimp and chorizo sausages had a nauseating, spoiled odor. Forget fresh, this stuff had rotted. We called the server and sent it back to the kitchen. It was getting pretty late by this time, so we asked her to get us a couple of "Angus beef" burgers to-go. The bill arrived first, the burgers after 10 minutes. OK, so I paid, we went home, and after opening the box, we found the following: 1. Shredded lettuce, all over the box. 2. Soggy, over-salted french fries. 3. The burger meat was a perfectly round, perfectly desiccated, perfectly cold patty. Kind of the stuff which a supermarket would throw away because they are past their sell-by date. We tried eating it. We honestly did, since we had paid good money for it. A couple of bites, and the same foul taste permeates both our mouths. This is spoiled as well. I had a good mind to take back the burgers to the restaurant, and force-feed it to the cook and the server. Of course, both of us spent a sleepless night enjoying our stomach cramps from spoiled food.
  • This is one of the few cafes in Long Grove, so unfortunately, if you're looking for a tea time snack, you will probably end up here. First off, the service is terrible. Our waitress was grumpy and frowning the whole time she took our order. It took her a while to come round to our table as well. We ordered a cappuccino, which was so diluted that it was closer to water than coffee. The couple behind us also order a coffee drink and was complaining to the waitress that the coffee was extremely diluted. The few good things going for this cafe is that it's situated right next to a lake, which makes for a nice setting. The cakes are also fairly decent, with the carrot cake being an enormous slice of delicious goodness. Those were the only two saving graces of an otherwise bad experience.
