Once a luxurious ocean liner, today The Queen Mary is home to a hotel, restaurants, and numerous exhibits. Take one of the guided tours to learn about the history of the ship, including its construction and service in WWII. A variety of other tours are available, such as an exploration of the ship’s haunted past and a journey into the historic submarine. After getting your fill of history, browse some of the stores. A nautical-themed gift makes a great souvenir. Don’t leave without sampling some of the onboard drinking and dining options. The 1930’s-themed observation bar, once the liner’s first-class lounge, offers superb ocean views. Where to stay in Long Beach

Most of Long Beach's attractions are near the water, so look for accommodations around East Ocean Boulevard. Downtown sits right in this vicinity, so you'll find plenty of rooms in large hotels, many of which have undergone recent and extensive renovations. For quieter environs with convenient access to the beach, look for cottages, houses, and apartments for rent east of downtown. Many of these offer ocean views. Naples Island at the east end of the beach is Long Beach's toniest neighborhood; the prices of accommodations here reflect this.

  • We did not stay in the hotel portion, but explored it as a piece of American history. Tours are a little on the pricey side considering a lot of the ship is under refurbishment/reconstruction and blocked off from public access. In my opinion, they should have adjust prices accordingly but I also understand that refurbishing this comes with a huge price tag attached. Aside from that, James, our guide, did an amazing job! What an incredibly knowledgeable gentleman and it was a pleasure to be on one of his tours. What a great piece of history this ship holds! This national treasure should be seen by everyone! Truly a sight to behold! In the end, it was well worth the visit!
  • The Queen Mary is free to walk around pass 6pm. We went for dinner at the Chelsea which had a wonderful view of downtown Long Beach. The restaurant has a small bar in front that we waited for a table of 13 for. We didn't have to wait long on a Wednesday night. The servers were very polite and helpful and the food came quickly. After dinner, we were able to walk around the boat a little pass 11pm. Everything was a lovely experience.
  • Loved staying on the ship and to experience it. Only stayed two nights at the end of our trip to the US and wished we could have stayed on it longer. It's not been modernised which would spoil it. It's mostly original. The outside could do with a lick of paint though as there's rust showing and paint peeling off so it needs a bit of money spending there. Our cabin was very spacious and loads of storage space with a big walk in cupboard to put all our suitcases and bags. It had two bedrooms - a double and single - although we could have all fitted in the big bed has it was massive. Would have been much better with tea and coffee making facilities in though - that's the only complaint. Would love to come again.
  • Went to see and enjoy the Fourth of July celebration and they had good food and great performances by different bands, groups, and entertainers (magicians). The exhibition on display was great and the tours were informative. The fireworks were great fabulous. It was an experience that I wouldn't mind doing again in the future. Perhaps next time, I will enjoy their restaurant and overnight accommodations.
  • Wonderful experience. Room was FAR nicer than we ever expected, having never been on a cruise or ship before. Had wonderful tour of the ship and learned so much about its history. Definitely recommend this as a "port of call" to spend a night or two if in this area and absolutely take the tour as it will mean much more. If you can check ahead to see if there are any special events on the ship when you plan to be in the area, you may want to time your night(s) around that. I don't recall what we paid but we felt it was in keeping with a nice quality hotel; not "upper level 5-star" but more "good quality" 4-star, esp considering this IS S Cal.
