Concannon Vineyard is the second-largest winery in the Livermore Valley of California, producing around 30,000 cases annually. It is well known for its Petite Sirah and Concannon was the first winery to bottle this grape as a varietal wine in 1961. It also produces several other varieties of wine, including Chardonnay. Concannon is owned by The Wine Group.
Concannon was founded in 1883 by James Concannon of Inishmore, County Galway. Its success in producing and selling sacramental or altar wine for the Roman Catholic Church helped it to survive national Prohibition. Grape cuttings from this vineyard were introduced to Mexico between 1889 and 1904 for the improvement of its commercial viticulture. As such, the vineyard has been designated a California Historical Landmark (#641).

Another great version of a CA winery. The person that helped us was knowledgeable and very personable. I don't even like chardonnay normally and theirs had such a unique toasted coconut flavor (something I've never tasted in a wine at all). Another location that allowed us to try a couple samples that were not on the tasting menu to give us a more personalized experience. I will definitely be bringing guests back here.
My family and I stopped into the tasting room on July 25th. I am giving them two stars for their wines alone. Customer service was frankly, atrocious. I would give zero stars for customer service if I could. My sister wasn't feeling well during the visit, so she opted out of wine tasting almost immediately. She hadn't taken a sip of wine before she decided that she wasn't going to partake in the tasting. We were served by Chuck, who seemed fairly knowledgeable about the wines upon initial introduction. However, it was apparent that he was more impressed with the group of girls that he was serving at the bar next to us, which was evidenced by the heavy-handed pours he was more than happy to dole out in stark contrast to the pours we were receiving. His general demeanor was anything but warm and inviting, which is pretty sad and inexcusable when you work in a customer service position in which you are forced to deal with people ALL day. The icing on the cake was when my Dad decided to purchase two bottles of wine following the tasting. He purchased a bottle of the 2016 Mother Vine Cabernet Sauvignon and a bottle of the 2016 Nina's Cuvee Petite Sirah. At most distinguished wineries, tastings are comped or at least partially when you became a wine club member, or buy a bottle of wine. When my Dad asked Chuck about the winery's policy on compensation for tastings, Chuck was quick to let us know that Concannon only covers tasting room fees if you are a wine club member. I understand that Chuck isn't responsible for creating winery policies, but he is responsible for the condescending comment that came out of his mouth next... Chuck had the audacity to retort, "Well I didn't charge you for HER tasting," insinuating that he was doing us a favor by not charging us for my sister not feeling well and choosing to sit the tasting out, even before she had ONE sip of wine. It truly is a shame that Chuck's lousy customer service and his brazen comments left such a bad taste in our mouths, as my family and I were largely impressed with the red wines we tasted that day. Concannon should reconsider their policy on tasting room fees for customers who purchase at least a hundred dollars of wine, in the interest of competition with most wineries in the area.
You can only taste in the tasting room, but if you buy a bottle the grounds are very nice for a little picnic. You can bring whatever outside food you want to pair with the wine. Lots of shade, but probably still pretty warm on a hot summer's day outside.
My favorite in Livermore. A must stop anytime we come though this area. Amazing wine, amazing customer service, amazing views!!
Love this place! Been here a couple of times and the staff entertain and describe all the wines we tasted. Their wine is very, very excellent! More expensive wine tasting than others in the area
