Concannon Vineyard, Livermore

#1 of 8 in Wineries in Livermore
Concannon Vineyard is the second-largest winery in the Livermore Valley of California, producing around 30,000 cases annually. It is well known for its Petite Sirah and Concannon was the first winery to bottle this grape as a varietal wine in 1961. It also produces several other varieties of wine, including Chardonnay. Concannon is owned by The Wine Group.Concannon was founded in 1883 by James Concannon of Inishmore, County Galway. Its success in producing and selling sacramental or altar wine for the Roman Catholic Church helped it to survive national Prohibition. Grape cuttings from this vineyard were introduced to Mexico between 1889 and 1904 for the improvement of its commercial viticulture. As such, the vineyard has been designated a California Historical Landmark (#641).

  • Very nice winery with great wines, lots of history at this winery, they started Pinot Noir in California,. Great outdoor space. Very low key area compared to Napa over 30 wineries in Livermore.  more »
  • Not from the area but I believe I found a new winery when im in town with an amazing white wine selection  more »
  • Took a group of business associates to Concannon for a quick wine tour. We were thoroughly "wined and dined"! Lovely tour of the history and grounds, met the 'mother vine' and then sat down at sunset ...  more »

  • My husband and I loved learning about the history of this winery and the area. We enjoyed walking the grounds as well. The wines are great as well! I was pleasantly surprised by their chardonnay as well as their full selection of reds. Such a wonderful experience!
  • The wines presented for the tasting were each so unique, but really good! We luckily had Penny helping us out; she was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. She had all sorts of suggestions and tips, and made us more acquainted with the Livermore valley. Such an easygoing atmosphere and beautiful grounds. Would definitely go back next time!!
  • I love this winery! I've been here on my own with friends as well as with company outings. Their staff is very friendly and of course their wine is delicious!
  • Beautiful grounds but poor customer service. I took a group of 8 people here on a Saturday and they couldn’t be less accommodating. I was pushed all over the tasting room trying to get checked in. The lady at the desk/host stand would say one thing and I’d get to the tasting bar and would be told another. It was honestly embarrassing taking a group of my friends and family from out of town here I expected this place to be top notch with 4.4 star reviews. From someone that is a wine club member at many wineries in Napa and Sonoma I was very disappointed in this experience. We left and went to Wente where the service is always good.
  • Excellant wine, knowledgable staff, beautiful surroundings
