Concannon Vineyard, Livermore

#1 of 8 in Wineries in Livermore
Concannon Vineyard is the second-largest winery in the Livermore Valley of California, producing around 30,000 cases annually. It is well known for its Petite Sirah and Concannon was the first winery to bottle this grape as a varietal wine in 1961. It also produces several other varieties of wine, including Chardonnay. Concannon is owned by The Wine Group.Concannon was founded in 1883 by James Concannon of Inishmore, County Galway. Its success in producing and selling sacramental or altar wine for the Roman Catholic Church helped it to survive national Prohibition. Grape cuttings from this vineyard were introduced to Mexico between 1889 and 1904 for the improvement of its commercial viticulture. As such, the vineyard has been designated a California Historical Landmark (#641).

The grounds are beautiful with ample space for picnics, parking. Wine tasting area for the public was roomy but not huge. There is an area for 'members'. I signed up for a wine tasting 'flight'. The s...  more »

Starts with good attention and lots of knowledge and that's what Chris provided as we tasted a lovely flight of wines. Good value in eliminating tasting fee for each bottle purchased.  more »

I have been to Concannon multiple times before but it was always for the Harvest Wine Festival. This time myself and 4 friends were there on our own. I would suggest going into the main tasting room f...  more »

Concannon Winery has become a go to spot for many of our family celebrations. A couple of years ago my sister and I treated our Mom to a "Paint n Sip" event for her birthday and the event was a smashing success! (The look on Mom's face when she thought we were taking her to the yoga event was priceless!) Oh! My sister accidentally left her credit card at this event, and of course it was found, secured, and returned to her. Thank you to the staff for that! Since my sister moved to the Livermore area, we've been going to Concannon for Mother's Day. If there's a more popular day at the winery I can't imagine it! Last year we had reservations at Underdog, the restaurant on the property. Sadly we didn't have reservations for the lawn (yes, on the busy days you need reservations for the lawn) This year, older and wiser, we knew to lock in reservations early. I worked with Elizabeth from Concannon and wow - what service! Elizabeth was so patient and explained all of our options prior to the reservation period opening, which helped us decide what would work best for us. She called back on the day reservations opened, we secured reservations, and I'm looking forward to spending Mother's Day with my Mom at Concannon. (thank you Elizabeth!!!) It's been fun to visit on random weekends, and I swear one of these days my sis and I will ride our bikes there! (Yes, they have bike parking!)

Meh... There are so many better wineries in Livermore...with better wines! I have yet to have a pleasant experience here. I really want to like Concannon, since apart from Wente it is one of the main anchors and larger wineries in Livermore...but none of my experiences have been all that pleasant. To start off tastings are not complementary, which is fine unless you have some of the most expensive tasting fees in Livermore that are NOT comped when you purchase bottles of wine! Not really a big issue, except the wine here is NOT that great. It does NOT command that kind of value or recognition. I was stunned when none of our tastings were comped even though we dropped around $200 in wine purchases...IMHO ridiculous! I found the only good thing to be the venue itself...big, spacious, clean, well maintained and the restaurant here is very good. Nothing to brag about...

Great place for wine tasting. Weekdays are better as Saturdays gets very busy.

I have been going here since 2014 and have had a good experience just about every time; one time my wife and I went and just didn't feel the vibe from the server. You can taste many vines for the cost, if you join their club you can come for free and bring a few as well. I had lunch in the back and it was great; super view, very relaxing and more!

The site says they are open daily from 11am-430pm. We are here and yet they are not open and have left a message. Why would you post your hours and not be open? Wasted 45 mins driving here.
