  • My husband and I traveled to Wiseman's View on a Sunday Morning. We arrived around 10:30am and did not see many other cars. The road to get back to the view is winding and rough. We were in a Jeep but...  read more »
  • Very windy gravel road that goes forever! Once you get there it is totally worth the trip- you are on top of everything!
  • I love Wisemans view. We used to be able to walk down to the cliffs and enjoy the spectacular scenery unspoiled by man. Now the NPS has constructed overviews for hikers and there are too few overlooks with too many people trying to get a peek. Still, you have to visit this part of Linville gorge to get a feel of the forces at work that created the valley. I would recommend a day trip to see the mountains and a night trip to view the Brown Mountain Lights. It's worth it.
  • This overlook provides excellent views of Table Rock mountain, Hawksbill mountain, and Shortoff mountain in Burke County NC. This overlook is wheelchair accessible and not very long. If you are looking for some longer hikes there are plenty in the area.
  • Excellent overlook of Linville gorge. It's worth the drive up. Mind the road, it's rough, but possible for two wheel drives to make it up.
  • Linville Gorge is described as the Grand Canyon of the East and Wiseman's View of it does not disappoint! Easily accessible from the parking area via a very short (1/4 mile) paved path, the view is spectacular! Keep in mind, there are a few miles of gravel roads to traverse to get there. Nothing most cars can't handle but it will be slow going. However, if it's wet or snowy, then something with all wheel drive would be best.
  • An absolute must-do if you're in the area! The 4 mile gravel road is a bit treacherous, but it's totally worth it! Great hiking trails along the way.
