Casino Horse Track
The Red Mile is a horse racing track located in Lexington, Kentucky, United States. The track hosts harness racing, a type of horse racing in which the horses must pull two-wheeled carts called sulkies while racing. It is one of harness racing's most famous tracks and is located in the heart of the Bluegrass region, an area of Kentucky famous for horse breeding and racing. In 2014, The Red Mile announced it was partnering with Keeneland to build a $30 million historical racing facility, with 1,000 terminals, scheduled to open September 2015. In May 2015, Keeneland also announced that it would move most of its Off-track betting operations to The Red Mile beginning July 15, 2015, investing over $2 million upgrading The Red Mile's grandstand area.FacilitiesThe race track itself is one mile long and made of red clay. From this, it is obvious to see how the name originated. In addition to the track, The Red Mile features a two-story clubhouse, a round barn, and a park. The clubhouse is often used for weddings, parties, and other gatherings. The Tattersalls area can accommodate large groups and is often used for horse sales.HistoryThe track was founded on September 28, 1875 and was sponsored by the Kentucky Trotting Horse Breeders Association. Attendance to the opening races was minimal because the track had not been advertised. Once newspapers published articles about the new track, attendance picked up. The track is the second-oldest harness racing track in the world and the oldest horse racing track in Lexington.

  • Not considered a casino due to being on land. They have a large selection of slots. Just 1 floor but slots don't seem to pay out well. 2nd floor has simulcasting for horse races. They do offer free play to join their free card club which is nice. Offer steak breakfast after 2am on certain days. Drinks are brought around, no self serve unless its coffee. No smoking through out building, only outside.
  • I have fun when I go. Win some, lose some. I drink little or no alcohol. Only one person has ever asked if I wanted a drink and actually had diet Coke. Bar staff will always full it up and are very personable. Nothing like Vegas. I did appreciate being told how to change settings on the machine. Food is good.
  • I love it there. And u have a lot of fun.And u win or lose money. I like winning money... 1st time going in there with my wife we was broke and we came out with money!!!!!!!!!
  • I like it. It's huge and has plenty of slot machines for you to lose your money or win. They have penny slots on up to $5 and above. There's a bar. There is sometimes live entertainment and there is a restaurant.
  • Always a good time there, and good live music. The slots are easy to use and understand. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place to all of my friends.

Where to stay in Lexington

Downtown Lexington offers accommodations ranging from budget to luxury, but for easier access to the area's famous horse parks and farms, consider staying just north of the city proper. Many rustic bed and breakfasts on the edge of town offer guests a chance to stay at a farmhouse or log cabin. These properties provide not only every comfort of home, but also much more privacy than a downtown hotel could offer. To avoid driving to Lexington's major urban attractions, consider a hotel near the city's convention center.
