  • Growing up in Lexington I remember many a trip to the Explorium and always had a great time. I still enjoy coming and taking the kids that I watch as fun activity when it is too hot or cold to be outs...  more »
  • Took the granddaughters, 9 and 12, here. And I will say 12 is about where kids will start losing interest in this. Until they get older and realize how fun it really is. Everything is hands on and gea...  more »

  • I came here when they first opened and it was great. Now they have let this place go to hell in a handbag. No time with the kids maybe 15 minutes at the first. Nothing works carpet dirty, lots do things missing in the different areas. Foul water in the water table and each kid had to touch the statnant water. Would not recommend to anyone. Don't waste your time or money. Highly disappointed.
  • I am terribly disappointed with our visit. As with most other comments, the place is suffering from major neglect. Many features not working and damaged. My personal issue was with the AC or should I say lack thereof. I spent most of the covered in sweat. Go into the bubble room and the stench about knocked you down. My 8 year old seemed to enjoy her visit, however, myself and my older daughter, who had visited years ago were sorely dissatisfied. I don't usually worry about going into public places but this place worrys me due to all the immunocomprimising medications I take for my MS.
  • My kids absolutely loved this place. However, I spent the entire time cringing and using hand sanitizer. The concept is great, but it is poorly maintained. Half of the exhibits did not work and those that did were filthy. Honestly, multiple things were falling apart, and it appeared that it had never been cleaned. As much as my kids loved it, we still won't be back.
  • Half the exhibits did not work at all. Of the other half most of them were missing parts or outright broken. Some exhibits had no explanation as to what they were. The place wasn't very clean either. You'd think with the number of people there and the price of admission, that there would be some sort of upkeep. Really disappointed. I would not go back even if it were free.
  • A lot of broken and incomplete exhibits. My 4.5 year old daughter had some fun but she really expected more stuff to do and was getting frustrated. This place led to more questions about "why it is broken and not fixed" than any resemblance of educational fun. There were 2 ladies at the front desk but that was it. The arctic place was a disaster area and the stuffed animals were filthy. I am not normally against a kid getting dirty but I would rather go that famous mouse cheese place during cold and flu season than go here again. Overall $8/person plus $3 parking was way to much to pay.

Where to stay in Lexington

Downtown Lexington offers accommodations ranging from budget to luxury, but for easier access to the area's famous horse parks and farms, consider staying just north of the city proper. Many rustic bed and breakfasts on the edge of town offer guests a chance to stay at a farmhouse or log cabin. These properties provide not only every comfort of home, but also much more privacy than a downtown hotel could offer. To avoid driving to Lexington's major urban attractions, consider a hotel near the city's convention center.
