With a 24-hour fishing pier and nearby campgrounds, Cape Henlopen State Park attracts seaside nature enthusiasts. The rest of the park has set hours, morning to sunset, for activities like playing disc golf, horseback riding, kayaking, and swimming. Head to the northern beach, which features a modern bathhouse with showers, changing rooms, and a snack bar. You can also explore the park on one of the many bicycle and walking paths. If you'd like to get up close to local fish and learn more about the park's habitats, stop by the Seaside Nature Center. Entrance to the park is free in the off-season, and a fee is charged per vehicle during the peak summer months. Cape Henlopen State Park reviews
Been going here with kids and grand kids for25 years! Still a great, inexpensive getaway for the family or friends. Biking, swimming, hiking, history and fishing are great for all ages. The bike... more »
Everyone had a great time! We all rode bikes around, walked some trails, went on a fun tour, and camped here! Our camping experience was great, but the sites were very cramped. It was so interesting..... more »
This is a terrific state park! We were visiting for a week and went there four days out of our stay. The beach is clean and long with a bathhouse and concessions. There were lifeguards during August..... more »
This is a great park. Great nature, great history, and great variety. We visited in early October 2020. The museum was not open but I was able to walk around the artillery battery. The coastal defense of the US is a not well known aspect of WWII and this park does a great job of telling this story. Since it was fall, we were able to walk out on the point at low tide. This was a really interesting walk. The look of the tidal flats was incredible. The campsites looked nice and well spaced. Access to the beach was easy. There was a neat hawk watch bird watching area with a good view of most of the park. We strongly recommend visiting Cape Henlopen State Park.
We stayed in a campsite on Road B. Most sites were shaded by tall pine trees. Sites were flat and had paved areas for parking. People camping in tents had plenty of space and their cars stayed on the pavement. Tony at the front booth was very kind and helpful. He gave great details on how to get to our site and what the park had to offer. The camp store was air conditioned and well stocked with camping knick knacks and cold refreshments.
I have been coming to Cape Henlopen for years and it really is a well maintained park as well as being inexpensive. It is $5 for in state and $10 for out of state to spend the full day there. I usually go to the beach but have also stopped in at the Nature Center and walked some of the trails. There are nice paved paths which are great for bike riding.
5 stars to both the beautiful nature and the park rangers! Me and my husband rode bikes along the Gordon Pond trail - absolutely one of the most breathtaking trail I’ve ever been to. Unfortunately, we got into a bike accident near Fort Miles. Had to call 911 and the park rangers and the ambulance arrived in no time. The park ranger on duty even drove me to the bike rental place to return my bikes. The level of professionalism and care they demonstrated really touched me. We are deeply grateful for the park rangers and will definitely return one day when we have the chance!
Wonderful state park. My wife and I are from Pennsylvania and e get the annual Delaware State Park pass just for this park. We go about 10 times a year. Get a vehicle beach tag for yourself if you enjoy surf fishing. Clean and there are very friendly rangers working here.
