Overpeck County Park is an 811acre county park in Bergen County, New Jersey, with major sections in Leonia, Palisades Park, Ridgefield Park, and Teaneck, surrounding Overpeck Creek, a tributary of the Hackensack River. The Overpeck Creek flows to the west of the Henry Hoebel Area and the South Area of the park.HistoryThe first inhabitants of the area were Ashkineshacky Native Americans, who lived around Leonia. Approximately a thousand Native Americans had their seasonal activities, collecting shells for wampum and hosting their bath festivals in Overpeck Creek. In 1954, the president of the Bergen County Park Commission, A. Thornton Bishop, proposed a plan to build a county park. This park was originally planned to rival Central Park in New York City.In the 1950s, Leonia, Palisades Park, Ridgefield Park, and Teaneck donated municipal land for the development of the Overpeck County Park. During the 1970s, Teaneck's municipal government, under then-Mayor Eleanor Kieliszek, sold a 350-acre parcel of land to Bergen County, which was later incorporated into Overpeck County Park.To visit Overpeck County Park on your trip to Leonia, use our Leonia online trip itinerary planner .

Perhaps it was the picture perfect August day, but we loved kayaking with the Hackensack Riverkeeper in Overpeck Park. Although we rented the kayaks for 2 hours, after one hour, my daughters, wife and... more »
Had fun with Kayaking. The Kayak rentals are to the right of Fort Lee Road/Overpeck Park Driveway intersection, via the wooden bridges. The staff there were quite friendly and helpful. Just a note tha... more »
I launch my canoe from the public dock into the calm waters. Or I walk my dog along the trails and listen to birds. There are restrooms and picnic tables. You can rent a kayak right there too. I've seen river otters, storks, and other water fowl I don't know the names of. I highly recommend it. Lots of docks all over the water for easy stoppage. Sometimes the boat launch parking area can be sparse because this place is so popular with joggers, bikers, families picnicking, etc...
The sunsets are gorgeous. The trail along the water is very pretty and relaxing. There are people of all ages and nationalities walking with with dogs and children smiling together. The playground is very nice. There are clean restrooms. There are lots of birds to watch.
It's a park. With parking all around. On busy days with festivals and carnivals you are lucky to find parking. A very good park. Nice walks around the water.
This a really child friendly park , my children’s are 18 month and 6 years and they both had a lot of fun there is also a nice sitting area for the guardian... will definitely go back again
Nearby cinema, great open space for picnics, park includes soccer field, tennis courts and play ground area. My kid loves to climb the netted towers here and the tire swing. Good place to bring your kid to get some fresh air.
