Bedrock Gardens, Lee

(5/5 based on 25+ reviews on the web)
Bedrock Gardens is a 20acre garden located on a 35acre property in Lee, New Hampshire, notable for its landscape design, its horticulture and its sculpture.HistoryNamed for its ever-present ledge, Bedrock Gardens was bought by its present owners in 1980, complete with a farm house, built circa 1740, a historic barn and three-holer outhouse. Over the next 20 years, it was extensively improved. The wooded areas were lumbered, a trail system was developed, and it was managed as a tree farm. A wildlife pond was built, and work was started on its multiple perennial and shrub beds. Hardscape in the form of walls, paths, water features and topographical improvements, have been added. Today it is noted for its concept of "the garden as a journey," with a starting point, "events" (or garden spaces) as places to go, and something to do along the way.Interest pointsBedrock Garden's main attractions fall into three categories: landscape design, horticulture, and art.Landscape designBedrock Gardens include "garden beds full of unusual specimens of trees and shrubs: a diamond-patterned, 100ft fence on which 11 varieties of apple trees have been espaliered: a formal garden with pools, fountains, and water features; a 1acre wildlife pond with a bridge, and 2mi of woodland trails." The smaller gardens include a more formal parterre, the spiritual "Spiral" garden, and the primitive "Dark Woods."

  • Beautifully maintained gardens with a variety of different styles and influences including a Japanese Teahouse. Lots of beautiful flowers and eclectic art selection.
  • Its a very beautiful place to visit which I highly recommend to friends and family. I do have one warning thought. Make sure to bring money as there is an admission fee for adult which they term a donation. This is not identified on the website. Somewhat confusing as the literature says a $10 for adults, and children are free, but we were asked for $7 per adult. It's worth the money as there is a lot of great stuff to see, but best to bring money with your as it is 10 minutes to the nearest ATM.
  • Bedrock Bedrock Gardens is the best kept secret in NH. If you like gardens, the outdoors, inspiration, serenity.... come and see for yourself. It has to be seen to really understand how beautiful a spot it is.
