Richard the immigrant had a son, Richard Junior (1719–1753), who had a son, Richard the "iron master" (d. 1763). Richard the iron master acquired much wealth through an iron forge, mining local iron. • We took the behind the scenes tour, which takes you to the attic, cellars, and hidden staircases. Somewhat challenging. Very knowledgeable guide who had lived at this pre-revolutionary war dwelling. H...  more »
  • Attended a free concert on the mansion lawn. Great turnout and great band. Ample parking and most of all it was all free. From what i heard they do this often.  more »
  • As a resident of Laurel, MD I have to be honest. We ended up in Laurel 20 years ago as a compromise that neither of us wanted (though God has a reason which became clear to us a few years after we mov...  more »

  • This place is so beautiful. My family and I enjoyed walking around the grounds and touring the Mansion at our own pace. There is even a room where kids (and adults :) can play with time period toys and clothes. **My family of 4 got in for free (3/31/18) because they have an exhibit up so make sure you check to see if they are running any deals**
  • Self guided tour so visitors get out of it what you put into it. Take time to really look, wander, and read the booklet. Very educational and interesting. Well kept. Excellent view into our history.
  • Beautiful home and self-guided tour is nice. It was around Halloween when we went and they had kitschy decorations around the house if that's something you enjoy. I imagine they do it at other holidays, too. It was not distracting, though!
  • Not alot to do or see, The childrens barn had coloring and books available for kids but its not worth the ten dollars. Self tour and I believe they have events here and there but it really wasnt alot to see or do..
  • Very well maintained historic mansion from the 1700's. Knowledgable staff. Formal gardens. Take the "hidden spaces" tour. Offered about twice a year. Basement and attic. Well maintained.
