Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas, Las Vegas

4.2
The iconic Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas represents a popular photo-op for tourists visiting Sin City. Designed by Betty Willis, the sign was erected at the south end of the world-renowned strip in 1959 to encourage tourists to visit. It seems the 7.6 m (25 ft) tall sign has been a success--today it attracts several hundred visitors a day eager to get their photo with the landmark. Best accessed by car, the sign stands at the side of the highway and features a small parking lot for visitors. You'll find an attendant on-site to corral the line of visitors who will take your picture for a small tip. • We visited the sign one of our morning and didn't realise it was a memorial to the Las Vegas Shooting, lots of photos and messages from there families and tourists who had visited earlier. We were ver...  more »

  • The trick seems to be to get there at 5:30am literally as the sun rises. Beautiful lighting first of all but we were also literally the only people there until maybe 6am when another car showed up. Fun to take some pictures but at the end of the day it is really just a sign. Oh and there are signs right there saying there there are no official photographers for that sign. It's just some opportunists. Good for them if you suck at photography and you trust them and don't mind spending money for something your cell phone can do.
  • There is a man there that's loves photography he'll take a pic with you and your group for free - tips appreciated. He's nice and never demands anything nor looks down on you if you rather not tip.
  • A fun landmark. Theres a small parking lot there if you drive and enough space to take some pictures. It's not really close to much so I wouldn't recommend walking because it's kinda boring, we did, but grabbed a taxi back.
  • Excellent time for friends, family and fans at the NFL Raiders Draft pick Saturday at the Fabulous Welcome to Las Vegas sign. We had a blast all day with Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak, Governor Brian Sandoval, Raiders President, Steve Hill from the Stadium Authority and the fans were cheering. Visitors coming to Las Vegas were very excited. Only in the Entertainment Capital of the World can you have such fun each and every day.
  • It's a damn sign. Some guy dressed sort of like Elvis conned me into giving him $5 and I stood in a line of w0 people so that my 1e year old daughter could take a picture of the sign to post on instagram. I wasn't even in Vegas of my own accord. I was there to drop someone off at the airport. I could do without ever being here again. The sign, like the entire city, is just another trap to lure people into the vast, hot, dusty desert wasteland to throw money away.

Where to stay in Las Vegas

Most Las Vegas hotels increase their room rates on the weekends, so if you have a flexible schedule, avoid Fridays and Saturdays and take advantage of package deals that include shows, meals, and gambling coupons. Remember also that if you stay at any one of the lively casino hotels, you may not be able to get a good night's sleep for the duration of your trip. If you come to Vegas to stay but not necessarily play, try one of the non-gaming hotels or explore the quieter areas surrounding the city.
