Las Vegas Downtown, Las Vegas

3.8
#7 of 37 in Sightseeing in Las Vegas
Neighborhood Tourist Spot
If you want a sense of the true, pre-Strip Las Vegas, the "soul of the city", head to Las Vegas Downtown. The hotels are less expensive and less flashy. The games are old-school. Out on the streets, you'll find an arts-and-culture scene and real cowboys--plus some costumed mascots of Sin City, who will be willing to take a photo with you for a price. Head to Fremont Street to see what's thought to be the world's largest audio-video system. Fans of "The Godfather" and all things mafia should plan a trip to The Mob Museum here. Put Las Vegas Downtown into our Las Vegas vacation generator and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

Where to stay in Las Vegas

Most Las Vegas hotels increase their room rates on the weekends, so if you have a flexible schedule, avoid Fridays and Saturdays and take advantage of package deals that include shows, meals, and gambling coupons. Remember also that if you stay at any one of the lively casino hotels, you may not be able to get a good night's sleep for the duration of your trip. If you come to Vegas to stay but not necessarily play, try one of the non-gaming hotels or explore the quieter areas surrounding the city.
