La Bayou is a casino located on the Fremont Street Experience in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada.The casino's only gaming options are 125 slot and video poker machines: there are no table games or sportsbooks. La Bayou is also one of the few casinos in Las Vegas that still has slot machines that cash out in real money. Most of the other Casinos in Las Vegas use a cashless voucher system which can be exchanged for the payout.In 2007 Steve Burnstine purchased the nearby business of Mermaids Casino, La Bayou, and Girls of Glitter Gulch.HistoryThe business opened as the Las Vegas Coffee House.Northern ClubIn 1920 Mayme Stocker renamed it the Northern Club, offering liquor and gaming when both were illegal.On March 20, 1931, the Northern Club received the first Nevada gaming license. The license was issued by Clark County. This was also the first gaming license issued to a woman, Mayme Stocker.Monte Carlo ClubWilbur Clark leased the Northern Club casino in 1945 renaming it the Monte Carlo Club. The Stockers continued to run the Northern Hotel on the second floor.
