  • I loved this place. Nice atmosphere, good service, and great for video poker players. This is what Vegas is supposed to be like, but generally isn't any more.  more »
  • Check this place out. It is really cool. The doors are tinted to give a yellowish hue, and the AC is really strong when you walk in. This is an old school atmosphere and definitely off the Strip.  more »
  • I was so disappointed in the service here. There is no place to order a beer without putting money into a machine ($20 minimum). Even after doing that, I couldn't get the bartender to even look at me,...  more »

  • This hotel used to be an "inside joke" among locals that you never step foot inside. It was run down and scary. They have done an amazing job with renovation, and inside you can't tell its the oldest hotel downtown. It looks very nice and classy. The cafe had an amazing sourdough club, and still has one of the cheapest prime ribs in town (it won't taste like a $40 cut, but a great deal none the less). Be prepared for the smell of cigarette smoke as the place is small and the air isn't well filtered. Everyone was very nice and helpful.
  • Very good experience. The hotel looks wonderful in and out. Rooms are clean, well maintained and taken care of. Nice service people and great environment. Location - heart of downtown. It made my little trip in Vegas just magnificent.
  • Loved the 1941 Caddy in the reception area. I was drooling. a classic automobile in a classic casino. I am not a huge fan of the Taj Mahal buildings on the strip and each time I come to Las Vegas, I will stay at a different old casino. This time, I played poker and slots. Next time Blackjack and Craps. As long as they stay at 3/2 and good odds. They have real slot machines that actually pay out in quarters, this beats the rink a ding of the electronic slots. brought back memories from my way younger days and I will be back again. Class act there.
  • We stayed in the cabana suites section that they added into the casino. I will make this short and sweet. Yes I would stay here again. Major key points, 1. It looks super nice and gives you the vegas feel. 2. But our room had a really funky smell, kind of like mildew. 3. Even though it was located by fremont, it was very quiet and the security guards were really nice. 3. But our room wasn't cleaned very well and there were cuts and cigarette burns on the sheets. 4. The bathroom was huge in the cabana suites section but could have been cleaned better. I have 3/5 because I would stay here again but there's easy things that should be fixed.
  • The Check in was quick and efficient. The Check out was similar but not as quick. The room was nice, bed not bad, overall a better than average experience. The casino was pretty clear of smoke at first but when you left you could smell it in your clothes and hair. Parking was good and easy to navigate around. The award winning blood orange margarita for the month of October was made differently each of the 4 times I tried ordering it with no garnish each time, although not bad for a $5 drink. Playing the 25 cent video poker was a lot of fun, especially seeing and hearing the quarters drop in the metal bin. A historical place like the El Cortez could be improved with a Vegas style buffet as that is a big draw to a casino and resort. I would stay again and recommend this to a friend.
