  • For a midsize museum they have enough of a varitey of items that will interest eveyone. I found their section on the infamous Belle Guniess fascinating, Their gun collection is to be admired.  more »
  • This is such a great museum - LaPorte County is very blessed to have such a beautiful building to house some truly wonderful artifacts. Please do not be swayed by an April review that called this muse...  more »

  • Definitely a heck of a museum. I had the chance to volunteer here and I must say, this is a pretty great collection. The museum itself is huge and has a professional feeling that most county museums fail to emulate. Despite the floor space, the museum is crammed full of stuff. There is a vintage car collection owned by Dr. Kesling, a very large antique gun collection with some really unique and bizarre weapons, a group of period rooms demonstrating common life throughout the years, and a whole load of events that keep you coming back. Don't be fooled. It may be a county museum, but it is far larger than any county museum ( and even some official museums) I've ever seen. It also has a massive, well-maintained archive that is invaluable to research. Maybe I'm biased due to my work there, but it is still a seriously impressive museum and well worth the look for locals and travellers alike. It really brings home the past.
  • They have an amazing collection, including one of the best and largest collections of antique firearms I have ever seen. I really enjoyed the automobile collection too.
  • Very well done, and a good variety.
  • Very cool, lots of local history here, and old cars.
  • Went there a few weeks ago and amazing place so much to look at of time gone by
