A lovely place for a reception and you learn something while socializing, drinking and snacking! The museum is on several floors but there are elevators. No worries!
This museum is very well done. I'm interested in the 1920s & was able to walk through a 1920s street scene, see many vehicles from that era, see a typical 1920s bungalow home & many other things. It h... read more »
I remember going to the museum as a school aged child when it first opened (~25 years ago). Over the years of school, I went a few times on field trips. My most recent trip before this one was 7 years... read more »
Awesome museum! Young or old, you will absolutely find something that catches your attention! The staff is friendly and helpful, and the gift shop is actually affordable...and I mean this in the most single mom kind of way! Definitely check it out--you'll love it!
I visited this museum with my mom recently and we both enjoyed it. It was a nice way to see different parts of Michigan history and it didn't cost very much to get in. There was a lot of different things to look at. It didn't take us too long to get through, maybe two hours. If you were going with kids you might want to plan to be there longer though.
Kids (9 & 7) groaned when we said we wanted to take them to a museum. there were parts that they skimmed over quickly, but other parts that they really enjoyed. My husband wanted to stay all day, I could have spent more time as well. we had estimated about 2 hours and ended up staying over 3. leaving because the kids were getting a little restless. the staff was very friendly and helpful.
The Historical Museum is the best place in the state to learn about Michigan from then until now. There is a gallery of rotating exhibits so even if you have been here before, there is always something new to see. The 3 floors of permanent exhibits are laid out in chronological order and create a fun run through Michigan history. This is a 'must see' for any Michigan resident and a good place for tourists to visit too.
Wonderful, clean and educational. The kids (10&4) loved the hands on displays. The staff was wonderful and polite.
