The Museum is a nonprofit, educational organization governed by a Board of Trustees. The Museum has thousands of irreplaceable items in the archives along with over 55 vehicles that range from 1886 through 2004. It is dedicated to Ransom Eli Olds, inventor, entrepreneur, and financier, and one of Lansing’s most notable automotive leaders. He created the principle of the assembly line in the automobile industry and founded two local automobile companies: Olds Motor Works (1897) and REO Motor Car Company (1904).Put R.E. Olds Transportation Museum and other Lansing attractions into our Lansing trip planner, and watch your holiday take shape.
As the Museum has grown in interpretation of its mission, and to more accurately promote Lansing area’s many contributions in transportation, the word “Transportation” was added to the Museum’s name in 1987.
The Museum exhibits a significant collection of automobiles, engines, and other materials significant to the transportation history of Lansing, the region, the state and the nation. The R.E. Olds Transportation Museum and the Bates and Edmonds Engine Company offices are resources within the Lansing Stewardship Community of Motor-Cities-National Heritage Area, a cultural heritage area and affiliate of the National Parks Service.
Currently, the REOTM and its surrounding land are leased from the City of Lansing.

I went there on a whim, and I was pleasantly surprised. Very interesting story about an interesting family.

Great museum with lots of information.. Just the right size, you feel you are able to look at everything before tiring out. Nice that it focused on one car brand. Well Worth the visit.

Very cool museum. More than just automobiles to look at and even though this is a small museum it offers a lot of things to look at. My son enjoyed it (he is 17) and so did his dad. I enjoyed looking at the vehicles as well as other historical items.

Very nice and organized! Loved reading the story cards on some of the items and cars, learned a lot about the place, time period and any events with the item. The gift shop is kind of strange just because it feels like there is just a bunch of random older stuff for sale, we did like the model cars though. We also really liked the photo op with the one car, wish there was more stuff like that!

Great museum. Small, but made for a great visit. We went on a Wednesday afternoon and were the only ones there. Beautiful cars, interesting history.

Enjoyed the museum very much!! Timeline of Olds innovation and design is very interesting. Also enjoyed the Lansing history related to the brand.
