  • What a fantastic experience! Well worth the time and cost. I’m so glad the history of this area is being preserved and the story of the mines and the people who worked them are being shared. Great for kids and families but some of the tour is over rough ground. People with difficulty walking, claustrophobia, or a fear of the dark may not enjoy this attraction. Give yourself about 30 minutes before the tour time so that you can wander the museum. You’ll also have time to do this after the tour though. Our tour guide was relatively new but was able to answer all of our questions. The script they use is well written and very educational. The entire tour was just under an hour. Dress warmly as it’s about 55 degrees in the mine even during the summer. Closed toed shoes are required and you should expect to get damp, if not wet as there is a lot of water in the mine.
  • Courteous and knowledgeable staff; wonderful mine tour after train ride into the shaft. Museum is full of interesting exhibits and photos. The tour gives you a taste of what poor underground coal miners endured to supply energy for early America while the coal, railroad and steel barons only grew richer. A visit to the Asa Packer Mansion in nearby Jim Thorpe would be a good way to experience the disparity.
  • Was really interesting to hear and visualize how the coal mine functioned, also to hear stories about the labor conditions in the years before laws put in place. The mine your takes one hour and they do have a small museum can walk through to see photos and actual tools utilized. Well worth the fee.
  • We were staying in Palmerton this weekend. We decided, lets go to a coal mine! So about 45 minutes later we arrived. LET ME TELL YOU. That ride was so worth it!!!! One of the coolest things I've ever done. Highly recommend anyone do this! Great for children too! The history on the coal mine fascinated me. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and answered every ones questions. My favorite part was when he turned off the lights and showed us what the miners would have to work in. I would absolutely go do this again!!! Thank you for such a great time!
  • Oh my goodness. This was one of my favorite vacation "excursions" ever. Our guide; Ryan, was knowledgeable and thorough. This tour was so full of history and nostalgia. It's an absolute must to visit.
