  • I don't think any review could give this place justice. The experience of going into a mountain on a mine tram and then getting to walk around inside the mines was an unreal experience. Our tour guide...  more »

  • A very different experience. It was amazing to go deep inside the mine. It really made us realize how awful the working conditions would have been there, particularly during the early days of mining. Our guide was a local young man and gave a wonderful tour. Money well spent. There is also a museum related to the history of this coal mine.
  • Strolling Down Memory Lane! Having grown up 1 block from this mine, the tour brought floods of great memories -- especially seeing the miners leave after the day shift and walk up Snyder Ave. I currently live in Texas and brought my grandsons to see the area where I grew up. Dozens of relatives worked this mine so the tour was especially poignant. Having grown up on stories of the mines did not even begin to prepare me for the reality. This is what those men endured on a daily basis to put food on our tables and clothes on our backs! Utterly amazing.
  • Not your typical tourist attraction, 100% practical, educational, with a hands on experience and basically a window back in time. Local townie guides showing you around the coal mine and explaining how these company towns and mountain communities grew around them. I highly recommend, Great tour and museum.
  • The hours on here are not only not correct, but seasonal. We were unable to visit after all. I've posted a picture of their sign and number to call for an appt outside of these times. I'd suggest calling/emailing days in advance.
  • We drove over an hour to experience the mine since it was listed as open online, but came to find out that those hours were not correct and were unable to get a tour. It probably would have been a really cool tour if we were able to experience it.
