The Amish Farm and House, Lancaster

4.1
#1 of 6 in Historic Sites in Lancaster County
Discover the Amish way of life at The Amish Farm and House, a 200-year-old estate providing insight into one of the country's most private communities. The working farm sits on 6 hectares (15 acres) that were part of a 1715 land grant made by William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania. The farm's walking paths lead to a blacksmith's shop, milk house, school, and a covered bridge, giving you a chance to see how a real Amish farm functions on a daily basis. The historic farmhouse, built in 1805, displays furnishings of a modern Amish home. Enjoyed the 90 minute bus tour through Lancaster. Our driver was very knowledgable about the area and the people. Certainly learned many things that I did not know before. Loved the sights and the roa...  more »

Don't go on Sunday. Amish shops closed on Sunday. Spent 30 min at Red Caboose Hotel. Little to do, not much in small gift shop. Otherwise, tour guide Barry was knowledgable and gave a good tour.  more »

My family opted for the House and the Countryside Tour. The first part, the house tour, was informative. Afterwards, you have access to the grounds to see and experience how the Amish live. The Amish ...  more »

We were greeted by a young Amish boy with pretzel samples made right there. Definitely a must have! Very reasonable prices. This farm and store offer homemade foods and drinks, cookbooks from the region, knickknacks, and more. I highly recommend the cheeses and cinnamon/cream cheese rolls.

This is a must do tour to understand and learn more about the Amish community. I have 6 children, and they absolutely loved this tour! Our bus tour guide was very very knowledgable and answered the many questions we had. We were running a little late for our tour time, and they graciously and patiently waited for us.

We got there an hour before closing and we're only able to do the house tour and take our own walk around the property and look at the newly born piglets. The history of the Amish and the way they live and their culture was very insightful as I knew close to nothing about it. The staff gave us a recommendation for an authentic Amish place to eat afterwards and that was great as well

We took the farms self guided tour and the bus tour through Amish country in Lancaster. ( you can also tour the house for an additional fee) It was interesting to see the Amish in there everyday lives during the bus tour. On the tour, we stopped at Bird and Hand bake shop. The farm is small but full of things to see, simple but interesting. There is a one room school house in the back, animals, and a covered bridge. Don't pass this by, this stop was a real treat!

Great tour and history. Guide needs more knowledge to better answer the questions. Her knowledge seemed a little basic. Tour was fun and going around to the shops was fun.
