  • After reading an article a few years ago about the Lanai Cat Sanctuary, and sharing it with my young adult daughters, we added it to our bucket list! Someday, we'd get there. Last month (March), we pl...  more »

  • I spent four unforgettable hours at the cat sanctuary. It was one of the best days of my life. More than 500 cats live at the sanctuary - some are surrendered pets, some are strays/ferals - and they have different comfort levels around people. Many of the cats are extremely friendly and hop into your lap immediately, while others are more shy and prefer to watch from afar. The staff are lovely and friendly. You can tell they take excellent care of the cats and the guests. They have named every single cat in the joint. They welcome donations so they can help continue their important work. This is an excellent day trip from Maui - just hop on the ferry (you might even see a whale or two!) and grab a taxi or shuttle to the sanctuary. The sanctuary staff are happy to call for a shuttle when it's time to go back (our shuttle was $10 per person). Bring a lunch and a water bottle (the water at the sanctuary is fine to drink) and prepare yourself for a snuggle buffet. This is a must-visit for any cat lover!
  • One of the most magical places I've ever visited. Cats everywhere, and I mean everywhere! Bring treats so they'll flock to you and you can win their love immediately. Also--these cats are up for adoption! All of them!
  • I can't imagine anyone flying out here for the sole purpose of adopting cat(s)..but I hope it happens! Save the air fare and just get one in L.A...there's thousands!
  • great place
  • Reason to go to Hawaii!
