Spook Hill is a gravity hill, an optical illusion where cars appear to roll up the spooky hill in Lake Wales, Florida.Spook Hill is located on the Lake Wales Ridge, a geologically significant range of sand and limestone hills, which were islands from two to three million years ago, when sea levels were much higher than at present. The attraction is adjacent to Spook Hill Elementary School that adopted Casper The Friendly Ghost as their school mascot. The attraction is also in close proximity to Bok Tower.Spook Hill received national media attention when an article about it appeared on the front page of the Wall Street Journal on October 25, 1990, and it was featured in a segment on CBS Morning News with Charles Osgood on November 5, 1990.

  • A real local experience you can't get anywhere else... takes only 5 minutes, including a photo and reading the history sign. DEFINITELY DO IT! SO COOL!!!!!!
  • It was a fun little detour on the way home from Bok Tower. Does appear to be going up hill in neutral. The kids loved it.
  • This was a waste of time. The sign at the bottom of the hill was cute, but that was about it. If you're in the area, drive by, but don't make a special trip to see this.
  • If you are visiting Lake Wales make sure to drive to Spook Hill. There nothing like it that I've seen. Try to figure out just what's making your vehicle go uphill on it's own! Very cool. On busy days you might have to wait for a couple other cars using the hill.
  • I'm going to reserve judgement on the people that are saying the car rolled downhill or it 'didn't work'. I'll just leave it at that.
  • Stopped with a collegue while in town. I'd been 30 years ago as a kid and it was cool. Both my collegue and I took turns letting our car roll both while in the car and watching each other's car from various vantage points. Never once looked like anything but the car going downhill. We just didn't see it.
  • was very rolled backwards - uphill kinda fast actually...creepy
  • When I went I was in a Freightliner cab over super rig with triple piggy backed 40' trailers and we rolled so fast backwards that the trailers accordioned and the tractor flipped end over end and burst into flames killing the driver and me in an apocolyptic inferno. It was the scariest last moments of life you could ever imagine. I highly recommend checking it out, even to those only slightly curious.
