  • This fort which has been mostly rebuilt was a focus point of numerous wars, and is a great way to experience that time. The fort still dry fires cannons and holds reenactment battles some times that a...  more »

  • Cute little fort in Lake George. It's not particularly massive - which can be a good thing when you don't want to feel overwhelmed - there are still a plethora of areas, activities and displays to see to keep you busy for an hour or two. Ghost tours happen in the evenings for a bit of a higher price, and they offer guided tours every hour. I believe there is a charge to get in (past the giftshop and hallway, which are free), but they suspend ticket sales for some events (like the Adirondack Nationals car show, and other yearly gatherings at the neighboring hotel), so stop by and see it for free then, only during the day.
  • Okay I gave this one a generous rating because it's free. It's a nice way to spend a few hours when you're at Lake George. We had a very nice time walking around the fort, watching movies and looking at the exhibits. For some reason it feels nostalgic for a time I didn't live in...
  • The Fort has an interring history and it is perfectly shown by the museum. The tour is interesting and the free parking is convent. I defiantly recommend looking in the gift shop.
  • Great chance to learn about some of the early history of our country. I've always loved the "living history" model, and Fort William Henry does a great job. The tour guides are friendly and knowledgeable, taking the time to explain everything thoroughly and answer an y and all questions. They've also got a great interactive piece for kids to "enlist" in the local militia, put on a uniform and "fire" muskets with museum guides. Sadly, like so many historic sites, not enough people are willing to spend the time visiting. While the rest of downtown Lake George is full of cheesey tourist trap shops selling cheap crap, a rare and vital piece of our nation's history sits ignored by too many people more interested in parasailing and roller coasters at nearby Six Flags.
  • Great tour guides and a museum that's working hard to be more than a tourist trap. The uniforms are authentic and the displays are interesting. I clip a star for the gift shop, which is fully tourist trapped. Stay clear of it and you'll have a great time.
